The craze for wearing wigs is at an all time high as more people opt to wear wigs rather than get their hair done. Their reasons for choosing the wig life vary from a busy lifestyle to wanting variety. Whatever the reasons, wigs are a lifesaving item that every woman should have. However, many people still don’t know what to look for in human hair wigs. This can cost you good money and a good hair day. Here are some things you should know about human hair wigs.

1.      Wig Vocabulary

Buying human hair wigs can sometimes feel like you’re buying drugs with all the technical terms used. For a new buyer, things can get confusing which might lead to buying the wrong product. You should be conversant with some wig terms so as to not be bombarded by the amount of information you’ll get while shopping. For instance, lace front wigs are wigs with a natural hairline giving you a flawless, undetectable hair.

2.      Texture

This is usually one of the first things you notice about human hair wigs. They feel softer and look shinier than synthetic wigs depending on the grade and quality. Since they’re made from real human hair, it should feel like real hair when you run your hands through it. Human hair tends to feel different when you rub it upwards because the strands are coated with scales. Therefore, you should always run your hands through them to feel the texture.

3.      Length

The longer the hair, the more the flair. Inches matter a lot when dealing with hair as this is a big selling point. Most people prefer long 16 to 20-inch wigs with 16 inches being the most popular choice. However, shorter wigs look more natural and are better for a professional look. Additionally, long wigs cost a lot more than short wigs. To measure hair, take it from the strand root to its ends.

4.      Size

For maximum comfort, ensure you get the correct head measurements. If it’s too tight, you’ll experience headaches among other discomforts. You can either measure yourself at home using a tape measure. However, many wig-making businesses measure your dimensions for custom made human hair wigs.

5.      Care

Some human hair wigs have a life span of up to 4 years depending on the wear and care. These two factors are key in prolonging your wig’s life especially the care. Luckily, human hair wigs are easy to care for just like you would care for your own natural hair. Don’t submerge the wig in water instead hold it in your hand and run water from the roots to ends then dry with a towel without twisting or wringing it. once you’re done, you should place it on a stand to dry then style as you like. Human hair wigs should be washed after every 10 to 12 wears.

6.      Cost

It’s not a secret that human hair wigs come with a hefty price tag ranging between Ksh 12,000 to Ksh 500,000 or more.  The price depends on the quality, length and style. However, this isn’t always the case and if you’re not careful, you might spend good money on bad hair. Always keep in mind these tips while you’re wig shopping to ensure you get the most out of it.
