An itchy scalp is caused by different factors such as dirt, skin condition and dryness. For whichever reason, an itchy scalp can be irritating, inconveniencing and other times, it can be embarrassing. There are better and healthier ways to relieve your scalp other than using chemical shampoos. To avoid unnecessary irritation, here are various ways to relieve an itchy scalp.

  1. Exfoliate Your Scalp

It’s just as important to exfoliate your scalp the same way that you exfoliate your skin. Your scalp gets oily and dirt build-up which leads to itchiness and dandruff. Thoroughly scrubbing your scalp while washing your hair will do the trick. However, exfoliating your scalp with an exfoliating shampoo has more benefits than just relieving itchiness. Beauty: 7 Benefits Of Exfoliating Your Skin

  1. Ditch The Wigs

They say beauty is pain. However, there are some things that are avoidable. Wigs may look cute but overwearing a wig restricts oxygen to your scalp. That may be one of the reasons your scalp is irritated.

You can choose to take a break every few days or take off your wig every night as you go to bed. Either way, the important part is to break from wigs every so often to allow your scalp to breathe. Hair Care: 6 Tips For Maintaining Your Wigs

  1. Treat Dandruff

Everyone has experienced dandruff at least once or twice. For other people, this is a persistent problem that leaves dry, white flakes all over your scalp and is both unsightly and irritating.

Dandruff is a result of severe dryness or a medical condition known as seborrheic dermatitis. For the less serious cases, dandruff is treatable using home remedies. For instance, you can use alcohol-based mouthwash to treat dandruff. The anti-fungal properties in mouthwash help to fight fungi that cause dandruff on the scalp. Wash your hair with regular shampoo then rinse it with mouthwash and treat with conditioner. Hair Care: Simple Home Remedies For Dandruff

  1. Use Lemon Juice

Lemon juice saves the day once again. since it has antiseptic properties, lemon juice fights bacteria that cause irritation on the scalp. You can prepare lemon juice hairspray and store it in the fridge or use fresh lemon. Simply squeeze the juice, dilute with water (if it’s a mild problem), apply to the scalp and leave for about 5- 0 minutes. Rinse it out. However, do not use this remedy daily as lemon is a natural whitener and might lighten your hair colour.

  1. Oil up

Dryness is the main reason for an itchy scalp. This is caused by a lack of oils both in your diet and applied to your scalp. A more permanent solution for this is to eat healthy fatty foods such as nuts, avocado, eggs and fish.

Additionally, regularly moisturize your scalp with quality hair oils and treatments. It’s advisable to oil your scalp every day if you’re more prone to dry scalp.
