Say hello to bomb selfies and enviable Instagram photos. OPPO was the first company to introduce the beautification feature in selfie mode and continues to make innovations towards the future of phone photography. Last week OPPO unveiled the elegant OPPO Find X in the Kenyan market. The OPPO Find X phone was released in the international market in July 2018 and is currently available for purchase in Kenya. The OPPO Find X is now the first Android phone to feature 3D structured light technology for 3D face recognition. The pop-up camera has depth sensors to create a 3D photo of your face. Its selfie camera is 25 megapixels and the dual rear cameras are 16 and 20 megapixels.
OPPO included the face recognition technology as a security measure to unlock the phone which has proved to be more effective than fingerprint technology. It also has a child safety feature that lets you lock certain apps when the little ones ask to play games on your phone.
The OPPO Find X runs on Oreo 8.1 which is an upgrade from Oreo 8.0 that reportedly had a number of issues. It has an octa-core processor meaning apps and heavy games can run smoothly on the phone. Its storage capacity is 256GB so you don’t have to worry about running out of space.
The battery life on the OPPO Find X is another impressive thing. It integrates a superb fast charging system that charges the phone in approximately 1 hour. While fully charged, it can last up to 8 hours on normal use which out-ranks most similar phones in the market. It also does not overheat while charging.
In terms of design, OPPO didn’t hold back with the Find X. This 6.4-inch phone comes in 2 colours; glacier blue and Bordeaux red, a front and back gorilla glass with an aluminum frame and a screen to body ratio of 93%.
At first, when I heard it was more than 6 inches I thought it might be too big. However, thanks to almost zero bezels, it fits comfortably in your hand or pocket and doesn’t feel bulky at all.
Another concern was if the glass back might be slippery for oily hands. Again, the grip on the phone is quite firm and generally, if you have butter fingers not even a rubber back can save you.
OPPO decided to leave out the notch design as is notable in the latest phones within its price range. It always aims to set itself apart and this feature will appeal to the anti-notch market. Besides, the almost full body display looks really attractive without the notch.
How long can it last? The OPPO Find X is made of glass on both sides which makes it a bit fragile. However, it has undergone 300,000 durability tests so it can last as long as you want it to last.
This futuristic phone will set you’re a whole Ksh 99,990. This price tag got the reaction you would expect for different reasons. The main reason being OPPO’s audience might not be the type to spend Ksh 100,000 on a phone. However, the company aims to cater to both its mid-range and luxury customers.
