What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the colon? That’s right, you probably don’t think about it at all, we rarely do. Did you know that the bacteria that accumulate in your colon cause you to have a variety of diseases ranging from common cold to extremes like cancer? The colon is home to a number of bacteria due to waste accumulation over the years. Picture this, you move into a new house and the water pipes are all newly installed and unclogged, two years later you get plumbing issues and have to install in new pipes. The colon is exactly like those drainage pipes, without maintenance they clog and cause the body to have health issues. So the question then arises, how do you cleanse your colon?

Colon hydrotherapy is a technique that infuses double filtered water into the colon cleansing out harmful toxins and waste products. It is a method of natural cleansing as no chemicals are used and no medication is required. This has the effect of flushing out of impacted faecal matter, which includes toxic waste, yeasts and other undesirable material that often build-up within the colon. Through stress, improper diet, insufficient water, lack of exercise, overeating, pollution and many other factors, toxins accumulate resulting in the build-up and deposits of mucus plaque. This then hinders normal digestion, absorption of nutrients into the body and elimination resulting in degeneration and disease.

Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Indian and Chinese civilizations practised this inner cleansing. They realized the benefit of colon cleansing and practised it in their lives, it has since been passed down from generation to generation proving how effective the practice is. The present-day colonics equipment was invented during the 20th century and has since drawn medical practitioners and health specialists to practice the procedure. Medical articles were written on the practice up until the 1930s, the practice has since been replaced with laxatives and other medications which although have proven to be effective are not as effective as the traditional practice.

Why then is there a need for a Colon Hydrotherapy?  As we have established the colon is exposed to all sorts of waste and toxins from the body. Considering the unhealthy lifestyles we live our health has gradually deteriorated and placed us at a greater risk of many diseases. Most of this toxins and bacteria harbouring in the colon cause this as they absorb into the bloodstream causing diseases and infections. Accumulation over the years not only causes clogging of the colon and problems like constipation, influx, gases, bloating and many more digestive complications. But also, the waste rots over time wearing and tearing the colon wall lining leading to major infections like chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, leaky gut syndrome, migraines, allergies, bad breath, acne and other illnesses.

The risk of contracting colon cancer or colorectal cancer is also greatly increased due to the impurities, harmful toxins and bacteria present in the colon. Cleansing of this organ reduces the risk of the harmful toxins and bacteria are taken away restoring the colon and making it habitable for beneficial bacteria. Taking out the risk factor of such growth, diseases and health complications raise the overall body health to its most optimal state and not only shows in a reduction of the health complication but also outwardly having an impact in our bodies and skin.

A few colonic sessions can give one a sense of well-being, boost energy levels, inspires a healthier lifestyle and diets, may aid in weight loss especially of the stomach fat around the waistline, clears skin and reduces acne and rash breakouts and so many more benefits. This is all accredited to the fact that the toxins in the body have been eliminated, the blood inevitably purified and is free of harmful toxins and bacteria. Absorption of water and mineral salts is also done more effectively as that is the function of the colon, this ensures the body is sufficiently supplied with water and the required mineral salts.

A colonic can be done on anyone free of any medical complication and from the age of 12 years. It is a good idea to cleanse out your system, aid it in flushing out toxins to not only restore it but to make bowel movement, colon functioning, and body functioning more efficiently. Colon hydrotherapy is a relaxing method of doing so and won’t cost you an arm and a leg, and find out about more about colon hydrotherapy from your medical practitioners. Want to know more about this procedure check out these FAQs – colon hydrotherapy.

According to Dr Axe, if you’re pregnant, have active haemorrhoids, suffer from kidney disease or are dehydrated, it’s possible for colon cleansing to cause side effects like weakness or dizziness, cramping, bloated stomach, nausea, and vomiting. Also when a cleanse is done too often, it can lead to an electrolyte imbalance or make the rectum susceptible to tears and bleeding. It’s also crucial to use sanitary equipment in order to reduce the risk for bacteria transfer and a possible infection. If you have a chronic condition it’s important to consult your doctor before trying this procedure. Try to take probiotic yoghurt or supplements to repopulate your stomach with healthy bacteria. Also take plenty of water, fruits and vegetables to restore your electrolytes.

It is also important to know the risks and side effects before you try a colon hydrotherapy. Before you try this please consult your doctor in order to find out if this is the best course of action for you. The jury is still out on whether colon hydrotherapy is beneficial or not, so we definitely recommend talking to your doctor before attempting this procedure.
