Recently my love for my natural tresses has been at an all-time high. I have been investing in products, putting in work and offering prayers to the heavens for growth and it has been paying off. My experiments with hair products left me wishing for one product that could carry out most of the functions I get from all the other products. Deep conditioning, deep treating, using hair masks and a variety of procedures are recommended but done weekly or fortnightly. I came up with a method of getting my hair all the protection and care it needs on a daily. After learning that you can make a homemade leave-in treatment by adding some treatment to water I decided to try it to make a homemade hairspray.

What I use is;

  • A few drops of conditioner.
  • A few drops of treatment.
  • One cup of fermented rice water.
  • Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
  • Three tablespoons of coconut milk.

Water is the base I use to mix in all the products. It dilutes them and mixes them making the solution balanced and regulated. Water on its own is great for moisturizing your tresses and restoring them. Your hair needs to be moisturized and hydrated to keep it from being brittle, dry and breaking off.

Conditioners are great for your hair for a variety of reasons including moisturizing, improving texture, smoothening, detangling, softening and protecting against further damage among other benefits. Using a bit of conditioner in your water makes for a leave-in conditioner that works to benefit your hair. Using this daily not only greatly improves your hair quality but also prevents against breakage and further damage protecting and restoring your hair.

Hair treatments are used to treat and restore your hair follicles. Hair and scalp treatment prevents breakage, drying and frizzing of the hair, it restores moisture, nourishes and softens the hair strands while improving the curl/coiling quality among other things. The value of treating your hair is to restore it and improve its quality as well. Using leave-in treatments ensures the hair is protected without the need to wash and sit under a drier for minutes.

Fermented rice water is a must-have for hair growth and maintenance. Not only does it cause growth but also protects and strengthens the hair follicles while at it. It also promotes elasticity and makes hair shiny and healthy. If you want your hair to grow long and strong use fermented rice water to wash your hair and mix it with your hairspray and use it daily. The inositol in rice water strengthens and improves quality of hair follicles. Skincare: Why You Should Try Rice Water For Your Hair And Skin

Apple cider vinegar has been praised for its benefits to our health, skin, and hair. Using ACV detangles hair, cleanses, balances the hair pH, reduces frizzing, adds natural body and defines curls, stimulates hair growth, gets rid of dandruff, reduces porosity and adds shine to the hair among other things. ACV not only restores the hair but also promotes its healthy growth and eases maintenance.

Coconut milk is used for a great number of things for its amazing benefits to the hair, skin and overall health. It not only restores damaged hair but also promotes hair growth and conditions the hair. Many time we have heard using coconut oil is great for hair growth but coconut milk is also very useful for it great benefits. 11 Reasons You Should Be Using Coconut Oil

You may decide to add a few drops of tea tree oil or whatever other essential oils you prefer. Put all this into a spray bottle and shake it till all the ingredients are mixed. I would recommend mixing everything before adding water to ensure they mix well on their own before adding water to dilute them. Let it sit in a cool dry place and use it daily, in the morning or before going to bed. For those with natural hair use it during styling and watch your hair transform. It can also be sprayed onto the scalp if one has a protective styling done. Shake well before use to ensure the ingredients are all mixed well to get maximum benefit from the hairspray. You will probably have to experiment a bit to find out what works for your hair.
