How often do you get to sample cuisines from India and Thailand? Rarely? Yes? That makes the two of us. But then again, don’t fret. Why? Because DusitD2 Nairobi and Qatar Airways, two names renowned in the hospitality and Aviation industries respectively, have come together to create a daringly different culinary experience with an event dubbed “New Delhi Meets Bangkok.”
This is a 9-day event that will be hosted at the swanky dusitD2 Hotel Nairobi and will feature Chef Pairote Pimswat from Bangkok and Award Winning Chef Nishant from New Delhi. These two top chefs will offer a unique menu of fusion of dishes from Thai and Indian cuisines. Basically, it’s getting a taste of Asia in Nairobi.
The event kicked off last Saturday and will be running until the 26th of June. This invite only inaugural event targets affluent locals, expats in Nairobi and hotel guests. Only 70 people will be invited per lunch and dinner sittings.
To get a sneak preview of the event, the snazzy dusitD2 Hotel Nairobi treated a bunch of guests and media personalities to what will be on offer during the nine days. What started off as a simple food tasting and sampling experience spilt into a six-course meal and hospitality befitting royalty. Some of the dishes we sampled included:
-Spicy chicken fritters with yoghurt masala sauce
-chickpea and pumpkin soup with lemongrass skewered lychees
-Thai red curry and kaffir lime spiced lamb with papaya-flaxseed picks and mint sabayon
-Crispy tilapia “bhajis style“ with Indian sweet and sour pineapple.
-Twice-baked chicken tandoori with broccoli and Thai herbs
-pulled jackfruit and caramelized onion biryani
-For desserts, we had kalakand cheesecake with orange reduction and lachedar mango as well as Thai custard and fresh coconut pudding with yellow lentil dumplings.
Of course, these will pass as just complex culinary terms until you get to experience them yourself. The food embraces a pungency balance of flavours and is delicious.
What is a great meal without an equally great wine to marry it with? From the wine shop, different wines such as the Rose were offered which paired well with the different aromatic and spicy food served. The Rose especially complements the heat in the spicy food.
Here’s the best part, guests who will dine at the peaceful and serene dusitD2 Hotel Nairobi, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD, will also stand a chance to win a holiday for two to Bangkok or New Delhi courtesy of the partnership of dusitD2 and Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways knows that in as much as customers want to experience superior services, they also want to enjoy the journey of exploring new tastes and cuisines from around the world hence they brought cuisines from two of their popular destinations(India and Thailand) to Nairobi.
