“God could not be everywhere and that’s why he made mothers to watch over us”. I was quite intrigued after reading that line. Mothers play godly roles in our lives. Right from conception through pregnancy, birth and our upbringing mothers give their all to see that we turn out just fine. Even after we are all grown, they will still call or visit just to check on us. The gift of a mother is one that you should always be grateful for. You might have been so caught up in your affairs that you rarely stop and think how blessed you are to have your mother. Mothers should be celebrated every day but there is a universal day set to appreciate them even more- Mothers’ Day. This year, this day comes on May 8th, this coming Sunday. I have a few suggestions on the gifts you can get your mother on this special day.

One-year subscription to her favourite magazine

She likes leafing through that magazine that has inspirational stories, recipes, success stories, and health stories among others. Well, treat her by gifting her with a yearly subscription to her favourite magazine. Every time she gets that magazine, she will think of you.

Cookbook

Mothers are amazing. They make yummy meals without consulting the recipe book. You can choose to make her adventurous in terms of cooking by getting her a cookbook. She would probably not mind trying out new recipes. You can also set dates to try making the recipes together.

Massage/Salon

She works hard. She goes out early and returns late. She barely has time to relax. This weekend treat her to some really relaxing massage at a spa. Or spice up things by taking her to the salon. Pamper her and pay for a manicure and pedicure as well.

A gadget/appliance

She might have all the appliances she needs but I am sure she would not reject your gift once you take it to her. You probably talk very often and she drops these hints of an appliance or a gadget that she wants to have but she has not raised enough money to get it. That would be a pleasant gift if you could manage to take it to her.

Prepare her meal

The trick here is to surprise her with her favourite meal or a meal that she has craved but has never been able to nail it as she pleases. If you have to call a chef or a friend whose culinary skills are excellent, then go right ahead. Mother’s Day comes on a Sunday, so probably, she will be in church. Get to the kitchen and prepare that meal. She will not forget that treat.

Cleaning service

She has done her own cleaning for the longest time. Sometimes she comes home too tired to do anything but she has to clean the place nonetheless. From doing the laundry to cleaning the dishes to washing the carpet, it is time to relieve her of some of these duties. This Mother’s Day, contact an organization that offers cleaning services and let her watch as her house is thoroughly cleaned for her.

Other gifts

There is virtually no limit to the number of gifts you can get your mother. You can get her extra pairs of shoes, beautiful pieces of jewellery or clothes.

The gifts do not have to be material. In fact, some of the most outstanding gifts leave an indelible mark in their hearts. If you do not have the money to get her any of the above, don’t fret. You can consider just visiting her and spending time with her. Tell her how much you love her and how grateful you are to have her. Remind her of the nice things she has done for you in the past and have a laugh about some of the mishaps you have gotten yourself into that she rescued you from. That, she will never forget.
