Last month I went to the coast on holiday. For the first 3 nights I was camping at Tiwi beach. For the 4th night I went to a small boutique hotel called Flamboyant in Diani. I had seen so many pictures of the property but nothing prepared me for the beauty of the place. I have never seen such an abundance of cushions in one place. The blue cushions just made one think of the sea. I was with two of my friends who were dropping me off and planned to go in search of some food. Florence the manager of Flamboyant DIani told us our options. We could eat at the Forty Thieves restaurant or at a place down at the beach called Bidi Babu where she said they had the most delicious prawns. So I went up to keep my bags and we went out exploring. I totally love their staircase.
Diani has such a beautiful beach. It was different from the one at Tiwi. The sand is more compact I think because the ocean comes right up to the top of the beach. We walked up the beach to Bidi Badu and had the most awesome fish and chips I have had in a long time. We were undecided between the fish and prawns so decided to have the fish. The fish fillet literally came off the bones and we ate with gusto. We stayed at the beach for the two hours having drinks and just enjoying the scenery.
I was looking forward to my stay at the Flamboyant Diani hotel. After 4 days of cold showers and sleeping in basic accommodation I was looking forward to a hot bath and sleep in a firm bed. Immediately when I got back I got my wish. They have a very unique soap and bath set. I found that they had put in some chocolate and dried fruit. I was loving this hotel. Flamboyant also has complimentary Wi-Fi so for those who have to work or check mails and social media you are set.
I was so tired I fell asleep very fast. The bed is very comfortable. I had to wake up in the middle of the night to switch on the A/C which I had switched on earlier. In the morning I made myself some herbal tea as I waited for breakfast. The view from the hotel is incredible. I stayed at the window just looking out at the beach.
I went down for breakfast at around 8. They make breakfast on order and so I had something to eat. Then Florence the manager took me around. The previous night I had meant to go to the Ali Barbour club but because I was alone, my friends having gone back to Tiwi beach I decided to forgo going. Some of the activities offered at a cost flamboyant include snorkeling, diving, trip to Wasini island, Kisine marine park visit, scuba lessons, Dolphin Seafari, kayaking in the lagoon, stand up paddling, windsurfing lessons and mountain bike tour around Diani. There is also skydiving. If you are staying at Flamboyant Diani you can be able to get a discount for some of the activities at the skydiving school and the sand and sea water sports centre.
Forty thieves beach restaurant and bar is one of the most interesting spots in Diani. Every month there is an event happening at the bar. They also organize events on the beach that tie in to the bar. It looked like the place to hang out. Next door to Ali Barbour is the Sand & Sea water sports centre where one can buy or rent equipment for water sports. On the other side of Flamboyant Diani is the skydiving school. I found out that you need to be less then a 100 kg to skydive. I saw a familiar face from Nairobi. Sky diving is on my bucket list and I plan to go back and do it.
Unfortunately I had run out of time as I needed to go back to North coast so that I could book my bus and take a tour of some of the interesting places in Mombasa with Mombasa girl. I was sad to leave. Flamboyant is so beautiful, a place one can stay for ages. It doesn’t feel like a hotel, it feels like a home. I loved the décor, they have seascapes everywhere. It is the kind of boutique hotel I would recommend for a family or somebody who wants to experience all that Diani has to offer. It is close to very many places one needs to go in Diani. Flamboyant Diani is a family run, 10 bedroom beach front house. It has an intimate and friendly atmosphere with great service. It is situated along the Diani beach and you can see the beautiful beach from your room. Flamboyant hotel is next to the famous forty thieves bar and restaurant and actually they are part of the same property. The hotel is located 35 km south of Mombasa international airport. It is 10 minutes drive from the Ukunda = Diani airstrip. You can also take a tuktuk from North coast to get there. There are many activities taking place there. The skydiving school is located there and there is also a water sports centre on site.
close to a world renowned golf course. It is also near the Shimba Hills Reserve and the Kisiti Marine Park. Flamboyant Diani has 10 bedrooms, 2 Superior-Honeymoon Rooms and 8 Standard Double or Twin Bedrooms. The rooms all have an A/C fan which is important because the nights are hot. There is a safe in every room, a hair dyer, tea, and coffee making facilities. I got a room upstairs facing the ocean but there are also rooms overlooking the swimming pool and the garden. Flamboyant Diani also have complimentary services like airstrip transfers from the Diani-Ukunda airstrip, laundry, a squash court, afternoon tea, and chocolate and dry fruits in the room every evening, fresh flowers everyday and if available, upgrade to a superior room.
