Safaricom Limited has today launched a youth Orchestra dubbed the Safaricom Youth Orchestra.

Comprising of 63 members ages 10 to 18 years, the Orchestra brings together children from different social and economic backgrounds with a common denominator being their exceptional talent in music.

The children were selected after a series of auditions held at the Strathmore University in March 2014. Over 150 children auditioned.

“Our vision is to have a youth orchestra that is world class. It is our hope that the 63 children you see here today will be able to enhance their talent even further” said Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore during the launch.

“The children will all have the same opportunities; in addition to the best resources such as celebrated Music Directors and Tutors, the children will go through 3 ten week terms that will ensure they are able to take their skills and abilities to the next level” added Collymore.

In addition to 2 major concerts this year, the Orchestra will perform in the Michael Joseph Centre as well as at Safaricom events. “In addition to a curriculum that is tailor made for the programme, the children will be able to perform at various engagements through the year in a bid to allow them further hone their skills and have the necessary exposure” said Collymore.
