The woman-on-top or cowgirl position, is one where you have a female partner on top. This gives more control over the pace and depth of penetration. It also gives the partner on the bottom an uninterrupted view. However, it can be an intimidating position. It requires a lot of flexibility, and core strength, flexibility and has more moving parts than regular positions like missionary or doggy style.

Here are a few ways you can make the woman-on-top position easier.

1. Mounting

Many movies and TV shows often show an actor carrying their partner and then gracefully sinking onto a bed or couch. But this may not be a possibility for most people. To keep it simple, have your partner lie on their back on a bed or the floor or sit upright in a chair. Kneel over their crotch. You can get on top by kneeling beside their flank and then lifting one knee to allow you to straddle your partner’s lower belly, crotch, or on their upper thigh. This way you can easily manoeuvre for foreplay and penetrative sex.

2. Support

If your partner is on a chair, you can use the backrest or your partner’s knees to give you support. The woman-on-top position means you’re the one making most of the moves and controlling the motions. Your partner below can only bounce up and down. You can gyrate, undulate, or bounce. This can get tiring quickly. To reduce the load on your upper thighs, you can also use your partner’s body for support. If they’re lying down, use their shoulders or have them raise their knees to use their thighs as a backrest. This is good for gyrating.

3. Keep moving

Don’t move too fast too soon. If you don’t have athleticism or endurance, moving too quickly can make you get a stitch or lose stamina. Start by slowly moving your waist in circles. If your partner sits up, you can increase the pleasure by indulging in other sensations by kissing or caressing each other’s torsos. When the feelings intensify, you can also move faster either by frotting or bouncing. Your partner can also guide your speed or direction by holding your hips and determining the movement.

4. Have fun with it

Sex is supposed to be fun. It shouldn’t feel like undue pressure. Remember to connect with your partner. Have your partner below play with your hair, neck, torso, belly, or boobs. The woman-on-top position is great for power games, you can ask your partner to hold out their hands to the side and to resist touching you for some time. Restraint is a very mild part of bondage and discipline that can increase the intensity of the sex.

Your partner can also use sex toys on your body. Clitoris stimulators, nipple clamps, and Wartenberg wheels are great toys for the woman-on-top position that can be used interchangeably. Exploring Different Types Of Sex Toys For Women And Men

5. Don’t worry about mishaps

It’s easy for your partner to slip out when you’re on top. Simply, lower yourself back on. To reduce the risk of injury you can have your partner guide you while you use one hand to anchor your partner’s member. If you’re new to the woman-on-top position, keep practising.

How To Cope With Sex Anxiety

The woman-on-top position also feels exposed. If you feel insecure about your body, you can opt to wear lingerie that obscures what you want hidden or wear a top to bed. Be sure to communicate with your partner continuously and do what feels right for you. Always feel free to adjust to ensure both you and your partner are having a great time.
