Huawei recently launched the Huawei Y9 prime 2019 in Kenya and it is retailing at KSH 24,999. Take advantage of the Jumia anniversary sale where you get to shop everything online at 70% off. The sale ends on July 14th.

Now if you have screened through the market or looking to upgrade to a new phone you may have noticed that there is a Huawei Y9 2019, which may pass off as its superior, the Y9 Prime 2019. But wait there’s a difference. The major difference lies in the following factors and more, a sweet offer is involved.

  1. Screen estate

In terms of design, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 features a massive display of 6.59 inches with a screen resolution of 2340 by 1080 FHD at an aspect ratio of 19:5:9. If you consider these measurements, the phone is almost all screen, yet it is easy to hold on one hand. It is also made of a notch-less ultra view display that guarantees a seamless viewing experience. If you are one to watch videos and Netflix through your phone Y9 prime would be the best choice for uninterrupted viewing. Its predecessor the Huawei Y9 on the other hand almost shares the same measurements in terms of display but without the notch-less display.

  1. Functionality

Even with its massive display, the Huawei Y9 Prime is still comfortable to hold courtesy of its 3D Arc Design that shines like glass. This is where the irony lies because the phone is still durable and shatter-resistant making it both visually appealing and functional.

With this type of screen, you will get to notice authentic rich colours because overall the phone has a wide gamut of 85%.

  1. Innovation

The Huawei Y9 prime 2019 also features a new and innovative type-C port which is reversible, smaller and faster in terms of connectivity. This is unlike the Huawei Y9 which has the old micro USB port. Now in light of the technological shift where the dream is to have one charger that can charge all devices, USB – C is a pretty good way to stay ahead.  When I said reversible, I meant that you won’t get to spoil your ports whenever you insert your USB the wrong way. With the type – C port anyway is the right way.

A side by side picture showing the difference between the type -c USB and the normal micro USB.
  1. Storage

In terms of storage, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 packs a 128GB ROM and runs on a 4GB RAM. The expanded memory allows up to 512GB. On the other hand, the Huawei Y9 offers 64GB of internal storage paired with 4GB RAM. You also have the option to expand the memory up to 400GB.

  1. Operating system

The Huawei Y9 Prime is the latest innovation on the Y series device and therefore its powers on Android 9 also known as Android pie vs the Huawei Y9 2019 which runs on Android v8.1 a.k.an Oreo.

With an upgraded operating system this means less energy consumption, 12.9% higher performance and efficiency, with added room for multitasking. The Android pie is also paired with the EMUI 9.0 which learns and analyses user behaviour for more optimized user experience.

  1. Processor

Since the Huawei Y9 2019 series is dedicated to the younger generation the new and improved Huawei Y9 Prime meets the needs of a video-centric and social media user. Running on a Kirin 710F chipset you get increased performance, better task sharing capabilities, lower latency and optimized power savings

This chipset is 30% more efficient than its predecessor and manages phone heating saving battery life. This processor is a contender to the Snapdragon 660 which powers Samsung phones.

  1. Camera and AI technology

With the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, you get a triple camera set up and a motorized auto pop up selfie camera.

Seemingly invisible the AI-powered front camera is tucked away and only appears when needed. Once you turn on the camera and select the selfie mode the front camera pops up automatically on the top of the phone. Additionally, it includes an intelligent protective feature that detects free fall and automatically retracts the lens

At the back of the phone, you find triple cameras that are the 16MP primary, 8MP secondary and the 2MP.

The 16MP and 8 MP feature a six-lens plastic array which comes with enhanced clarity, contrast and overall quality. The primary camera also allows 50% more light with quick focus and effective noise control. The 2MP is a sensor that assists the primary camera in generating life-like intensity and depth of field in the photo. Altogether, you get an SLR quality image on a palm-sized handset. If that’s not all, these powerful cameras also house a stunning night mode with AI stabilization for low light photos and videos. This AI stabilization also helps in shooting super slow-motion videos at a stunning 480fps.

Overall the Y9 Prime beats the Y9 (13MP + 2 MP in terms of camera versatility.

Other advantages

  • Due to the addictive allure of the notch-less display, Huawei has used a certified low blue light protection, which filters blue light emission. It intelligently adjusts colour temperature and brightness to protect eyestrain. When in low light situations you can bring down the brightness to 2 nits for a more comfortable experience.
  • The Huawei Y9 Prime system is further optimized by the flash friendly file system (F2Fs 2.0) and extendable read-only file system which provides better memory management, improving performance.
  • A 4000mAh battery is installed for extended use.
  • Sensors including; Light sensor, Fingerprint sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Compass and Gyroscope for tracking rotation or twist.
  • The phone runs on a GPU turbo which adds to the gaming advantage.
  • The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 also comes in 3 colours; namely emerald, green and midnight black.

Of course inside the box expect a jelly case, earphones, a charger and the type-C USB.

Considering the price and all the specs you get on this device it is safe to say that the Huawei Y9 Prime just made competitors on its category appear more expensive.

In addition, Donald Trump lifted the trade ban between US and China signifying that Huawei will continue using Google services as well as Facebook.

In the exact words of Steven Li the Huawei Mobile country president, speaking during the launch he noted that, “We are glad to be contributing the ever-growing smartphone usage in Kenya. Therefore we would like to reassure our consumers that all devices in the market will continue using Google services as well as Facebook.”

Offer!!! If you get to pre-order the Huawei Y9 prime 2019 by the 4th of July you get a free Bluetooth speaker. For all consumers buying the phone, you also get a 3-month screen damage protection from the date of purchase. This service is valued at Ksh 8,500 only.
