Theodore Roosevelt, the 25th President of the United States once said, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Though the quote was said hundreds of years ago, it’s more relevant than ever in today’s world. Emotional intelligence plays a huge role in how we express and present ourselves. This is why some of the most successful people in the world have emotional intelligence. In some cases, companies are likely to hire candidates based on their emotional intelligence. It’s considered a valuable skill in both personal and professional settings. However, emotional intelligence doesn’t always come naturally and not everyone possesses this skill.  Here are some signs of emotional intelligence.

  1. They’re open-minded

Open-mindedness is one of the qualities good leaders and successful people possess. However, you need emotional intelligence to be open-minded. People who are emotionally intelligent are open to criticism and can listen without passing judgement. They don’t dismiss ideas because they’re different from theirs or come from someone who isn’t on their level. This allows them to interact with different types of people and pick up new ideas from them.

  1. They can manage difficult situations successful

How do you react when faced with a challenge? Do you panic and run around like a headless chicken? Do you give up and wallow in self-pity? If you react in any of these ways, you may need to work on your emotional intelligence. People who possess high emotional intelligence are usually level-headed which allows them to handle difficult situations better than those who don’t. Before reacting, they pause and think of the best solutions to the problem since they’re more in tune with their emotions. 5 Tips To Help You Move Forward In Your Career

  1. They know their strengths and weakness

People who are emotionally intelligent are very aware of themselves. Self-awareness is important since it helps you know what you’re good at and what you’re not and how to use your strengths to your advantage. On the other hand, people who lack emotional intelligence usually possess narcissistic traits such as an inflated ego. It can be difficult to work or relate with such a person since they believe that they’re always right and it’s hard to correct them or suggest anything to them.

  1. They’re empathetic

This is one of the most obvious signs of emotional intelligence. It’s also the most humane quality that people can possess. Empathy allows you to not only recognize your own emotions but also those of others around you. An empathetic person will go out of their way to make sure that everyone is okay. Nurturing this quality will make you more considerate and helpful which are essential qualities in your personal and professional life. Sometimes, this can be draining and it’s necessary to take care of your own well-being as well.

  1. They Give Praise And Feedback

It takes high emotional intelligence to acknowledge someone’s good work especially if the person is in the same field or department as ye are. Many people think that when they praise someone, they will come off as desperate or the person will become full of themselves. However, genuine praise can help encourage the person to continue with the good work. The truth is all human beings crave acknowledgement and appreciation. Similarly, it’s important to give feedback as this can help the person realize their full potential. 8 Dos And Don’ts Of Working With A Narcissistic Boss

  1. They don’t hold grudges

Holding on to grudges does more harm than good to your mental and emotional well-being. The offending party moves on with their life while you never get a chance to heal. Emotionally intelligent people recognize this which is why they don’t hold grudges. Learning how to forgive and forget when people offend you can help you move forward and have healthy relationships with others.
