Last month TECNO launched the SPARK 10 series which includes the SPARK 10, SPARK 10 Pro, SPARK 10 C and SPARK 10 5G. The SPARK 10 series was created to suit Gen Z, fond of taking photos and videos. The phones in this series not only have a trendy design but also produce high-quality selfies. Aside from that they also have other amazing qualities. For the review, we got the TECNO SPARK 10 Pro. Let’s dive into the key features.
Design And Build
If there is one thing that TECNO went all out on is the design of the phone, especially the back panel. The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro comes in two colours, Starry Black and Pearl White. For this review, we got the stunning pearl white. When you hold up the phone and tilt it under the light you will notice a change of colour on the back panel. TECNO also upgraded the back panel with a starry glass material which is scratch resistant and has a matte finish.
If you enjoy spending time on your phone either on YouTube or watching movies, then you will also love the display. The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro has a display of 6.8 inches and a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. It also has an impressive screen quality with a 90 Hz refresh rate. However, it is a heavy phone which makes it harder to stay on your phone for a long time. The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro measures 168.4 x 76.2 x 8.4mm and weighs 208g.
At the top middle area sits the selfie camera. On the left side is the SIM tray which you can use for two sim cards or a microSD card. The volume buttons and the lock/power button are on the right side. The power/lock button also works as the screen lock. At the bottom I was stunned to see a 3.5 mm audio jack, it’s been a long time since I saw a phone with a headphone jack. The noise-cancelling microphone, speaker grille and charging port are also at the bottom. The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro, like most smartphones today, uses a Type C USB.
The back has three circular modules that stick out – two cameras and a dual LED flash. At first glance, I thought the SPARK 10 Pro had three cameras until I noticed the LED flash. The setup resembles the Apple camera setup which is cool. There is also a depth sensor just above the flash. I also noticed that the camera area has a glossy texture that blends well with the matte texture of the back panel.
Software And Performance
Another notable quality of the TECNO SPARK 10 Pro is its high-performance processor. The phone uses the MediaTek Helio G88 SOC which partners with the 90 Hz display to create a smooth operating experience. The octa-core CPU runs at 2GHz, enabling responsive reactions and fast-loading apps. It also makes it easier to play games and have the ultimate entertainment experience.
The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro comes in 8/128GB and 8/256GB. You can also increase the RAM size to up to 16GB via RAM expansion. Moreover, the phone comes in Android 13 and runs on the latest version of HiOS 12.6. The only issue I had in terms of performance was how long the phone takes to switch on. Other than that, the experience was smooth.
In terms of sound, the SPARK 10 Pro has a single loudspeaker and music sounds good at all levels of volume. The same applies in terms of sound during voice calls and video calls.
Camera
The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro was designed to be able to enhance the selfie and video experience of the younger generation. Being a curious content creator, I am always so excited to test out the camera app. The SPARK 10 Pro has a rear camera of 50 MP with an aperture of f/1.6 and a 32 MP selfie camera with a wide-angle lens. The selfie camera takes detailed photos that are also very beautiful. You can use different modes like Beauty, AR shot, Portrait, Wide Selfie and AI CAM.
I had so much fun taking photos, especially with the afternoon sun. My face looked so clear thanks to beauty mode and the background also looked aesthetically pleasing.
The AR shot mode was my favourite . Like the Bitmoji for Snapchat, you get to create your character and use it as a substitute for your face when taking photos. You can use different backgrounds as well although that crops out the rest of your body.
The rear camera was also amazing to use mainly at night thanks to the Super Night mode. You can zoom at 1x or 2x depending on what you are taking photos of. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t take photos with different effects although you will find them while editing.
In terms of videos, the camera app has the normal video feature that shoots at 1080p. The videos come out well although you might struggle with stabilization. The result comes out amazing when you use a tripod or when the phone is stable on a surface. Another feature that I found intriguing is the film feature. For people who love videography, this is the best video feature you can experience. There are different video modes like vintage which takes you back to the 90s. Performance which you can use for people dancing or singing. Travel enables you to take videos of different sceneries like the ocean. Other modes include family, street, superstar, beats, sport, party and motion.
Battery
The SPARK 10 Pro has a huge Li-Po 5000 battery. You can use the phone for up to two days with light usage or one day with medium usage. When your charge runs low you can use the ultra-power saving mode. It phone also comes with an 18W charger that charges the phone in a short period. A handy feature I noticed is the AI smart charge. It adjusts the charging speed according to your charging routine to reduce battery ageing and keep safe charging.
Verdict
The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro has a beautiful stylish design, an ultra-high-resolution display and battery. It also has a high-performance processor, and both the selfie and rear cameras produce amazing photos. If you are in the market for a budget-friendly phone that will give you the best social media experience, then this is the phone for you.
The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro is available in Kilimall, Jumia and other e-commerce shops. You can also purchase it in physical shops across the country. The TECNO SPARK 10 Pro 8/128GB goes for 20,500 while the 8/256GB goes for 23,500.
