Harry had been pursuing me for a really long time but I never saw him as anything more than just a friend. He was a great friend who I could rely on when things were not going well. However, whenever he tried to make a move on me, I would shut him down. He finally managed to wear me down and I accepted to go on a date with him just to get him off my case.

This was after he found out that I had broken up with my ex so he thought he had an opportunity. Despite agreeing to go on a date, I kept cancelling and postponing it. I just didn’t feel comfortable going out with him for some reason even though he had been a close and loyal friend for years. I just had a bad feeling about it and so did my best friend.

“That guy gives me weird vibes.” She said after I told her about the date.

“I know but he wouldn’t hurt me. He’s been my friend for so long.”

“It’s always the ones you least expect. Besides, he might want to revenge for being friend-zoned for so long.”

“You watch too many movies,” I said and laughed.

However, my best friend actually predicted what would happen to me just a few days later. I noticed that Harry wouldn’t give up or forget about the date so I reluctantly agreed and he even offered to pick me up so I wouldn’t cancel on him.

On Saturday, he was at my house by 3 pm. Our date was at 7 pm and I hadn’t even showered but he still insisted that he would wait. So, I poured him a glass of juice and then went to shower and prepare. An hour and a half later, I was ready but it was still early to leave.

“Wow, you look so good.” He said.

I smiled but didn’t say anything back. I felt that if I acknowledged his advances, it would give him the wrong impression. After pouring myself a glass of juice, I sat at the edge of my L-seater couch. Harry was on the other corner but somehow, he made his way next to me.

He kept placing his hand around my waist which made me very uncomfortable. At some point, I had to stand so he wouldn’t squeeze himself next to me. I could already tell that things were going wrong but I thought I could handle it.

Around 6 pm, we left the house and headed to the restaurant. It was pretty nice which made me relax a bit. I knew he wouldn’t try to touch me inappropriately at such a restaurant. I was right. The dinner went surprisingly well and it was like Harry was a completely different person from the guy in my apartment. He asked me how I was doing after the breakup and even consoled me.

I let my guard down and started opening up to him. At some point, my phone rang and I went to the washrooms to pick it up. It was my best friend calling to check on me.

“Hey, how is the date going?” She asked.

“It’s going good. It started off a little weird but I’m good now. He took me to this nice restaurant.” I said as I described the place.

“Eden?” She asked.

“Yes, that’s the place.”

“Okay. He definitely wants to impress you.”

We chatted for a short time then I went back to my date. He was calmly seated, staring at a blank wall. When I sat down, he appeared startled but brushed it off.

“How did the call go?” He asked.

“It was good. Just a friend saying hi.”

“I missed you.” He said with a blank emotionless look in his eyes.

I smiled and then sipped my wine. For some reason, I could taste something bitter but assumed it was the wine. I remember complaining that it wasn’t the one I liked. However, I continued drinking as Harry stared at me without saying anything.

“How are the dogs?” I asked trying to make conversation.

“Fine. I took them to my mum’s place for the night. I don’t want anything to interrupt our special night.”

“Special night?” I asked in shock. “I need to go home.”

As I stood up, I lost my balance and stumbled back to my seat. I knew it couldn’t be the wine since I had only had one glass. Harry didn’t even bother helping me and it was one of the waiters who came to check on me.

“Are you okay? Do you need some water?” He asked.

I could barely speak at that point but I heard Harry telling off the waiter.

“She’s fine. She’s just a lightweight.” He said.

The next thing I remember was waking up in my bed with the worst hangover I ever had. I looked around and saw my best friend sitting on the edge of the bed scrolling through her phone.

“Maya?” I called her and she turned.

“Thank God!” She yelled.

“What happened?”

“That weird guy drugged you.”

“How did you know?”

“I just had a bad feeling the whole night and I couldn’t stay calm. So I went to Eden to check up on you but the waiter said you left with the man you were with. He also said you didn’t look normal and were staggering unusually even though you had one glass of wine.”

“How did you know where he lives?”

“I tracked your iPhone and then asked the security for his house number. He was so surprised to see me. I dragged you out of that house and put you in the Uber.”

“Oh my God, I can’t believe he could do something like that to me.”

“I warned you about going on a date with him. What if he raped you? Should we go and report him?”

“It’s a waste of time. You know how this police are. They’ll try to blame me for being drugged.”

“At least, let’s go to the hospital. God knows what that man put in your body.”

I found out that Harry had drugged me while we were on a date because his friends had told him to do so. They wanted him to have sex with me since I had been “playing with his feelings” for years. Though he was apologetic, I couldn’t be friends with him any longer. He had betrayed me in the worst way and I couldn’t trust him again.
