Whether you enjoy a little self-pleasure every now and then or you want to spice things in the bedroom with your partner, sex toys are becoming a common accessory in many people’s bedside drawers – On The Rising MArket For Sex Toys. While they’re fun to use, don’t get too carried away by the pleasure and forget to take good care of them. Failing to take care of your sex toys could lead to infections and other health issues. Disinfecting and proper storage are some important things you should always do to ensure that your toy serves you well again and again. Here are some ways to take care of your sex toys.

Buy From A Trusted Source

If the sex toy bug has bitten you and you’re in the market for one, don’t rush to the internet to look for sellers in your area. Do your research and make sure you buy from a trusted source. Chances are you know someone who has a sex toy. Ask them where they bought it. You can also do a Google search and check reviews. Keep in mind that sex toys are generally pricey so this is not the time to be frugal since cheap is expensive.

Clean Them Religiously

Make a habit of cleaning your sex toys immediately after use. You should also clean them before using them on different body parts and just to be safe, clean them after buying. You have to be as hygienic as possible since they can harbour bacteria if not cleaned. Waterproof toys are the easiest to clean with disinfectant soap and water. For electric or battery-powered ones, you can wipe them down with antibacterial wipes then wipe with a wet cloth. However, all sex toys come with cleaning instructions which you should follow.

Share With Caution

Sharing is caring but when it comes to sex toys, it’s best you avoid sharing them. it’s easy to transmit sexual diseases such as Chlamydia from one infected person to another through a sex toy since they come in direct contact with rectal and/or vaginal mucosal membranes. Additionally, even if you use protection you can still get an STD from unwashed sex toys. If you’re in a relationship or you want to share your toy with another person, make sure you know their STD status.

Store Them Safely

Keeping sex toys in your bedside drawer might not be the safest way to store them. Think about it. How many other things are in that drawer? This is usually a catch-all drawer for many of us so putting something as delicate as a sex toy in there can be dangerous. Technically, the drawer is not the issue but it’s important to keep your vibrating babies separate from other items to avoid damaging the surface or contaminating them.

Charge Them Periodically

Rechargeable sex toys are a popular choice for many users since they’re some of the easiest to take care of. However, they come with their fair share of needs. Just as you charge your phone, you need to charge them. Overcharging or undercharging could shorten the battery’s lifespan and diminish its performance. You should charge them fully before using them. While charging, avoid switching them on and avoid recharging them until the battery is low. The instruction manual should contain the charging time, usage time, and other charging instructions.

Use Protection With Porous Toys

Porous toys are some of the hardest sex toys to take care of but are ironically a popular choice for many since they don’t contain “harmful chemicals” compared to other materials. Since they’re hard to clean and can’t be disinfected fully, they are easy to spread diseases. Therefore, you should always use protection when using such a toy.

Toss Them Out

No matter how careful you are, sex toys are manmade and they are prone to defects and malfunction. If your sex toys have any irregularities, or defects or are simply worn out from use, it’s time to toss them out. Don’t use a toy that has a defect as this could put you in danger of injury or infection. Make sure you inspect the toy when you buy it. Most sellers accept returns as long as you haven’t used them. If it’s worn out from prolonged use, package them well and put them in the trash bag. In advanced countries, vibrators are considered electronic waste so they’re recycled using special facilities.
