Having access to a lot of tools is essential for any DIY projects that you would like to take on. However, if you did not grow up in a house full of builders or professional DIYers then it can be tough to know which tools you should always have in your toolbox. There is a list of must-have tools like hammers, screwdrivers, and spanners but there is so much more to it than that. Here is a list of different tools that you should pack in your toolbox and why they will be useful for you.

Toolbox

So, this is the first thing you should purchase if you are revamping your tool kit. Having an organized place where you can keep your tools as well as having a place where you know where they are is really useful in case you need your tools in a pinch. Getting a useful toolbox will also help you streamline your tools and make sure that you have everything you need without duplicates or rusty old ones.

Soldering Iron

This may seem like an off-the-wall suggestion for your toolbox, but they can be incredibly useful when fixing things around the home. These useful tools can be used on everything from circuit boards, stained glass, and automotive parts. For the home, they are especially useful on circuit boards. They can establish the continuation of an electrical current when joining wires.

These useful tools are great for home projects and are not too expensive. If you are looking for some examples of good ones, then you should look at the Hakko fx-888 model as an opening iron for beginners.

Small tools

You should fill your toolbox with basics like a set of Allen keys, a measuring tape, duct and electrical tape, a builder’s pencil, and a builder’s knife. Also, it is always worth having a spirit level to sort out those wonky shelves or slightly askew countertops. Additionally, a set of decent pliers that are great for gripping and holding firmly. All of these tools are what any builder will have in their toolbox and having them handy will see you through many a DIY situation.

Screwdrivers

These are probably the most useful of all the tools to have in your toolbox. You should have a variety of sizes in both of the types of screwdrivers: the Phillips and flathead. They are really useful for many DIY projects as most projects, furniture and tasks will likely require numerous screwdrivers to complete. As well as this they are useful for opening paint tins, levering small items, and scraping.

Specialized tools

Once you have the basics out the way, you can start thinking about more expensive and specialized tools. These are useful for new homeowners or people who are going to regular maintenance or updating their homes. Here are a few examples of the tools that you may need for your next DIY project.

Drills

A cordless drill will make DIY projects so much easier. They are much simpler to use than hard drills and can save so much more time than just using screwdrivers. They can drill holes and drive in screws. Having a cordless drill makes them so much more maneuverable and means that you will have no problem getting those hard-to-reach projects. Just make sure to keep it charged.

Saws

The type of saw that you will need will change depending on the type of work you will be carrying out. Bow, coping and toolbox saws are all great to have in your toolbox for smaller jobs. If you need a little bit more power, then you will need a jigsaw, but they are much bulkier and more difficult to keep tucked away. You can get a circular saw, or a miter saw if you need to tackle those larger jobs.

Painting tools

A set of paint brushes, rollers, paint trays, and roller handle extensions are the greatest tools to have lying around for when you finally get time to start painting your rooms. If you want to make your life easier then you can invest in a paint spray gun that will give a superior finish. Though these are not necessary. Nothing beats a paintbrush and roller for your next painting project.

Toolbox tools

Having a well-stocked toolbox is something that will only take you a little time to organize but will save you a great amount of time in the long run. You can tackle any basic DIY project and even look like you know what you are doing when your friends ask for your help.
