Dating can be as fun and exciting as you make it. You don’t have to spend millions to impress a girl, all you have to do is get creative. When it comes to first dates, you’re trying to get to know the person, and so you need to think through your ideas.

I would suggest that you go somewhere where you can have a conversation and enjoy each other’s company. By the end of a first date, you should know clearly whether you like the other person’s company and whether you would like to go on a second and third date.

Here are 10 first-date ideas on where to take a girl.

1. Dinner

Everybody loves food. Dinner is intimate and cute. Choose a restaurant with pretty aesthetics and good food. Remember to make a reservation and sit at a place that’s quiet so that you can talk and get to know one another better. You can go the extra mile of asking her what cuisine she likes best, and take her to a restaurant that offers that.

The restaurant scene in Nairobi is constantly getting better but I would highly recommend Wine Shop, Red Ginger, Ate, Mint & Salt, and Urban Eatery. Be sure to look up the menus on the internet and find a suitable one price-wise.

2. Breakfast Dates

Breakfast dates are a very thoughtful first-date idea. They take a short time, and you’re able to enjoy the serene nature of the morning together. Breakfast dates reduce pre-date anxiety. If anything there’s a time cap on it because you all need to get on with your day. Breakfast menus barely exceed two pages as opposed to dinner options, which will have you looking through pages with no clue what to pick.

For breakfast dates in Nairobi, you can try out Java, Art Caffe, Cafe Deli, or Al Yusra.

3. Arcade

If you’re out for a fun experience, then arcades are guaranteed to give you just that. Playing games helps you learn about the other person in a more intimate way. Are they competitive? Fun? Reserved? Outgoing? This can even give you insight into where to take her on the second date if you get there.

You can check out the arcade at Westgate Mall or the one at Nextgen Mall.

4. Karaoke

The best thing about karaoke is that you don’t have to sing well, it’s all about fun. If she loves music, then this is a great first-date idea. Karaoke can be super fun especially with the right person. So grab some drinks and get on stage! You can’t go wrong with music in the mix.

5. Art events

Paint & sip events are a blast. You don’t have to know how to paint or draw, you can go as a complete amateur and learn everything while there. As a first date idea, it gives you some special time to bond and get to know each other while at the same time acquiring a new skill.

You can look out for such events on social media, but Tomoca Coffee regularly holds them at Two Rivers Mall.

6. Picnic

A picnic is a more affordable date idea. If you’re not willing to break the bank trying to impress her, then this should be top on your list. All you need is some food and perhaps drinks. The idea of a picnic is to spend time outdoors, away from your electronics. It gives you the time and space to hold a conversation and to intimately get to know the person.

You can check out Arboretum Park, Karura Forest, Ngong’ Hills, Paradise Lost, or Oloolua Nature Trail.

7. Spa Treatment

Everyone loves to feel good, and spa treatment will help you to relax and rejuvenate. It’s even better when you do it with someone else. It’s cute and fancy. So if she’s been complaining about being fatigued or you think she needs special pampering, then you can book a spa date for two.

There are many spa dates across the city, so find an affordable one with good reviews such as Spa Royal or Ameerah Spa.

8. Bowling

Bowling is fun! Whether you go as a big or small squad, you are almost always guaranteed a good time. It’s also a great first-date idea because it eases the tension that comes with hanging out with someone for the first time.

There are many bowling alleys in Kenya nowadays, and they’re almost always affordable. Check out the ones at Westgate Mall, Village Market, or Sarit Centre.

9. Live music

Another first date idea for music lovers! Isn’t it beautiful to listen to musical instruments being played live, along with a soothing voice? Live music is a great first-date idea. It’s enjoyable, and you can simultaneously enjoy a conversation with the girl.

You can go to live music events all over the city.

10. Ice skating

Ice skating is fun! You don’t have to be perfect at it. You can learn from/with each other. It’s also great because it eases the tension of hanging out with someone for the first time. In Nairobi, you can go Ice Skating at Panari.
