OPPO is really the gift that keeps on giving. Since launching its first device back in 2008, OPPO has been in relentless pursuit of the synergy of aesthetic satisfaction and innovative technology. The smartphone manufacturer has recently launched three new devices, including a wearable smartphone device. Last year, OPPO launched its first smartwatch series which was completely successful, and following this, they are adding to its wearable smart device line in the country with the launch of the OPPO Band.
In addition, The OPPO A54 and OPPO A74 have also been launched to add to the manufacturer’s A-series. The Head of Corporate Communication and Projects at OPPO Kenya, Muthoni Wachira said, “The A-Series aims to make technology more tangible and fun for those on the go and are socially active. They’re not afraid to embrace the latest technology as the latest generation of A-Series, OPPO A74 and OPPO A54 offer a design that balances both the technology that can get them through their day, but also balances this with style.”
Let’s take a look at each of these devices and what they have to offer.
OPPO A54

The OPPO A54 is a sleek new phone in the market, which has a fantastic overall impression and competitive features. At first sight, you probably fall in love with the phone because it is thin, has a screen that fully covers the front face, and has beautiful options in terms of colour and design.
Display
The phone comes in two colour options, either crystal black or starry purple. These, to me, are great options depending on whether you prefer laid-back or outstanding colours. Both options to me seem viable.
In terms of design, the phone has a crisp, flat screen that stretches across the front, while gentle curve arcs around the back, forming a premium look that exceeds expectations. The phone is light in weight, and precisely about 190 g, which makes it handy and easy to walk around with.
It has a 90Hz hyper colour screen, which brings you a rich and accurate colour experience that looks almost as vivid as what you see in real life. With a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate, graphics flow smoothly and responses happen instantly.
The back of the phone is pretty and not too crowded. The camera sits perfectly on the top left side of the screen.
Battery Capacity
This phone comes with a 5000mAh battery, which is considerably good. The manufacturer claims that the battery can power 13 hours of video viewing, 27 hours of call time, and 40 hours standby. This, of course, is a great selling point.
Camera
Everyone loves a good phone camera to document the beautiful things that happen in life. The OPPO A54 camera has been described as ‘The right kind of camera for any shot.’ This is attributed to its A. I scene enhancement which directs the camera to set the scene of the picture that is being taken. It has a 48 MP front AI quad-camera. The front camera has 16 MP, while the rear camera has 48MP + 8MP Ultra-wide Angle Camera + 2MP Macro Camera + 2MP Mono Camera.
Memory
The OPPO A54 has 4GB RAM +64GB ROM. It also comes with an option for external memory. So if you’re a person who relies on storing data on the phone, then the OPPO A54 has you sorted.
Price
The OPPO A54 is now available in Kenya at around 24,000 Kenya shillings in mobile retail stores.
OPPO A74

The OPPO A74 is yet another addition to the A-series family! This phone is valuable and impressive at first sight. OPPO A74 delivers not only a super smooth performance but minimizes phone lag, even over time.
Display
The OPPO A74 comes in 6.43 inches long, with an 84.4% screen-to-body ratio. This improves user experience especially for videos, e-books, and general ease of use. This phone is available in two different colours: fluid black or fantastic purple. The fluid black has a consistent and sleek pitch dark colour, while the fantastic purple is a blend of blue and purple.
This phone weighs 192 g, slightly more than OPPO A54. Despite this, it is relatively light in weight and easy to walk around with. It has a 3D Curved Body with a side fingerprint unlock. The side fingerprint unlock is a great idea, because then it doesn’t interfere with the back design of the phone. It also has a face unlock alternative.
Battery Capacity
The OPPO A74 has a battery capacity of 4890/5000mAh. This battery is said to be ‘fast charge’ meaning it takes a shorter than usual time to become fully charged. It’s a non-removable battery, which also enhances the design of the phone.
Camera
The phone comes with a rear camera that contains a 48MP Main Camera + 2MP Macro Camera + 2MP Mono Camera. The front camera on the other hand has 8MP. Both cameras have panorama, portrait, night, time-lapse, and sticker features.
Memory
The OPPO A74 contains 6GB RAM +128GB ROM and supports external memory in case you manage to fill up this space.
Price
This phone goes for about 25,000 Kenya shillings at local mobile retailers.
The OPPO Band

The all-new OPPO Band is a fitness tracker, which features a continuous blood oxygen monitoring function. It monitors blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) every second during sleep. Sleep problems continue to rise in our world today not only for the aged but also for adults and the youth. The OPPO Band health monitoring function is specialized to detect sleep problems. It supports accurate sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and continuous SpO2 monitoring—providing all-around records and analysis of its user’s sleep health.
The OPPO Band also offers 12 workout modes and other convenient functions, perfect for active, quick-paced lifestyles. It has water resistance and can be worn while swimming in a pool or doing shallow open-water activities.
This OPPO Band can also work as an extension of the user’s smartphone. Users can receive messaging and call notifications, control music playback, and even find their mobile phones through the band.
For the batter capacity of the OPPO Band, it uses a high-performance, low-power processor. It is made with a large 100mAh battery and can be fully charged in just 1.5 hours.
The OPPO Band will retail at 5,000 Kenya shillings. However, it will start selling on May 20, 2020, with an offer that will see the first 100 customers on Jumia purchasing it for 3,999 Kenya shillings. This offer will run till May 23, 2020, or until the first 100 Bands are sold.
