Hairline loss can be terrifying for both men and women as good hair is seen as a sign of health and beauty. Though it mostly happens to men, women are also prone to receding hairlines. Like other body parts, our hair needs proper care and nourishment to promote healthy growth.

Causes

Hair loss can also be caused by medical conditions such as dermatitis, ringworms, dandruff, and psoriasis. These conditions can be due to immune deficiency or bacterial infections. Additionally, lupus and thyroid diseases are some of the common causes of hair loss in women. The thyroid hormone, specifically, plays a crucial role in the development of hair follicles. Therefore, women who suffer from the disease are likely to lose their hairline. For such conditions, you may need to receive medical treatment.

Alopecia Areata is another medical condition that causes hair loss. it attacks hair follicles which causes patches of hair to fall off. This may also affect the hairline. Anyone is prone to this disease and it mainly affects people at a young age. Though its cause is still unknown, doctors suspect it could be a genetic deformity. Additionally, there’s no cure for this disease. You can either consult your doctor on alternative methods to restore your hair or wait for it to naturally grow back.

There are some types of hair loss that are simply due to genetics. People who come from a family with a history of balding or receding hairline are likely to experience it themselves. There’s nothing much anyone can do about genetic-related hair loss. Though you can manage the condition and help slow down the process.

Here are some things you can do to prevent losing your hairline.

  1. Get Regular Scalp Massages

Poor blood circulation is a common cause of hair loss. Therefore, you should make it a routine to receive regular scalp massages when you visit the salon or barbershop. You can also give yourself a scalp massage for a few minutes every day. A good scalp rub will stimulate blood circulation and in turn, promote hair follicles to grow. You can use hot oil treatment to massage your scalp so as to further prevent hair damage.

  1. Invest In Wigs

If you notice your hairline is slowly moving back, it might be time to ditch the braids and invest in wigs. Some hairstyles tend to pull the fragile hairs along our hairline causing breakage. Wigs give your hairline a break from the stress of braiding and allows your hair to regrow. It’s also a good protective style to prevent hair thinning caused by environmental factors. 8 Things To Know About Human Hair Wigs

  1. Apply Lemon Juice With Olive Oil

Lemon juice has been used to prevent hairline loss due to its rich source of Vitamin C. This helps fight fungus causing bacteria which leads to hair loss especially along the hairline. Coupled with olive oil, this mixture provides moisture and nourishment to promote healthy hair growth.

Method

Squeeze 1 lemon and mix with 1 cup of olive oil. Refrigerate the mixture for an hour. Massage into your scalp for 15-20 minutes. Let it sit for an hour then rinse your hair with warm water. repeat 2-3 times a week.

  1. Use Silk or Satin Pillowcases

Your cotton pillowcase may be slowly thinning your hairline as it tends to cause friction thus leading to hair breakage. The hairline is a delicate area and constant rubbing can have damaging effects. To be on the safer side, use a satin or silk pillowcase and head wrap while sleeping as they’re gentler and slide easily with minimum friction. Since silk pillowcases tend to be pricey, you can lay a silk scarf on your cotton pillowcase as you sleep. Why Silk Pillowcases Are Best For Your Skin And Hair

  1. Shampoo Every Week

Dirt and dandruff can clog your hair follicles thus cause your hair to thin and break. It’s important to wash your hair once every week and use the right products depending on your hair type. You can consult a hair specialist to recommend the right products to use. However, you should always use a shampoo and conditioner in your haircare routine. Ensure your wash your hair correctly to avoid adding more stress to it. How To Find The Right Regimen For 4C Hair

Hair Care: Simple Home Remedies For Dandruff

  1. Avoid Brushing Your Hair

Brushing pulls back your hair causing breakage, especially along the hairline. Avoid combs with stiff bristles such as plastic, wood, or metal as they are more aggressive when detangling your hair. You can use combs that have rubber or synthetic bristles as they’re more flexible. Additionally, avoid putting your hair in a ponytail. If you must, use an elastic that doesn’t have a metal to prevent your hair from getting entangled in it.

7. Avoid Tight Hairstyles

Braids and weaves can be damaging to your hairline especially if they’re too tight. Give your hair a break in between braiding and weaving and always tell your stylist to loosen them up when you feel like they’re too tight.
