It’s this phone’s design for me! Sleek, lightweight, and ultra-thin. What more could you ask for? I have been using the OPPO A93 for the last couple of weeks, and I must say that my experience has been one to write home about, so that’s exactly what I am doing.

It’s true that you should not judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to this particular phone, you will be tempted to do so. However, as its tagline says, there is more to love, more than looks. That’s completely true.

Display

OPPO A93 has a 6.43-inch touchscreen display. The screen fits perfectly on the phone leaving no borders, which makes the phone attractive. It has a 220° Smooth Rounded Edge and an Aspect Ratio of 20:9. It is a 7.48 mm Ultra-thin screen that weighs 164 g, which is ultra-lightweight.

I got the OPPO A93 in colour Magic Blue. It’s a beautiful shade that’s close to turquoise but a little darker than that. If I were to describe it further, I’d say it’s reminiscent of the colour of the ocean. If you don’t particularly like this colour, there are options. You can also get the OPPO A93 in metallic white or matte black. Another thing which is particularly interesting is that the back of the phone is fingerprint-resistant.

The back of the phone has two different but very close shades of blue. This adds to the pizzazz and makes it even more attractive. It’s a simple and yet striking design.

It comes with a transparent phone cover, which I particularly liked because then you can show off the design of the phone, while still protecting it.

Battery Capacity

One of the key things to look out for when purchasing a phone is the battery. How long can it stay on before it needs to be charged? No one wants a phone that’s constantly running out of battery because that can be inconvenient.

For the OPPO A93, I can attest that the battery life is pretty good. It has a 4000 mAh battery, which does an extremely good job. In fact, unlike many other phones, you can play around with the phone’s features including the camera and the music and the battery still doesn’t drain as fast.

It has a super power saving mode that claims to keep the phone on for three hours once it gets to 10%. I tried this, and during these three hours, I used the phone constantly. It lasted slightly under two hours, but I am sure that if you don’t use it as much it will definitely last three hours.

Camera

When purchasing a new phone, the camera seems to be the one thing that just about everyone looks out for. I was looking forward to trying out this feature more than any other, and I was not disappointed at all.

The OPPO A93 has a quad camera. Its rear camera consists of 48 MP (wide) + 8 MP (ultrawide) + 2 MP (depth) + 2 MP (depth). The front camera on the other hand is 16 MP (wide) + 2 MP (depth). The image resolution is 2160 pixels.

I tried out many different shots with the camera. But first, the one I was most excited about was the portrait camera. This phone has a portrait mode both on the front and on the rear camera. So I started off with a photoshoot of Chai, a dog who unfortunately lost one of its eyes a few months ago. But let’s not digress…

portrait images using OPPO A93

These images to me were seamless, especially seeing as they weren’t exactly taken in the brightest light. They came out perfectly. In fact, I couldn’t imagine them better.

On another hand, when it came to selfies, I found that the portrait camera sort of brightened the image. In the image below, I look much lighter-skinned than I am. For me, this was a little disappointing. Nonetheless, you can always edit the image once it’s taken, or be sure to reduce the exposure levels on the phone before taking the image. Despite this, I still love the pictures.

Let me also say that I was super fascinated by the outdoor images taken using this phone. In fact, this is the thing I’d praise the camera the most for. Would you believe me if I told you that these images are actually unedited?

When it came to the regular selfie camera, the focus was perfect. The picture taken below was in extremely bright light, and yet it still managed to capture the subjects (my friend and I) without the light interfering.

Video Capabilities

The world today is moving towards audio-visual as one of the main tools of communication. Therefore, when you are choosing a phone you definitely want one that takes good video as well. The OPPO A 93 has 4K quality,  at 30 frames per second.

I managed to take this beautiful video at Ololua Forest, which, to be honest, I couldn’t imagine any better. The speed, as compared to that of the image, was very cohesive.

Processor

The phone’s processor is a Mediatek Helio P95. As a layman, I had to do some research on what exactly this means. This processor provides more reliable connectivity performance even in densely populated spaces such as stadiums, busy shopping districts, offices, or airports. It has been boosted to achieve a 10% increase in benchmark performance versus the previous generation, making it one of the most powerful AI processing engines available for 4G smartphones today. It is also an Octa-Core processor, meaning that it has eight processing units.

All in all, for the period that I have been using the OPPO A93, it has been a smooth experience in terms of the processing speed. I haven’t had any instances where the phone freezes or does not respond to a command, and I hope that it stays that way.

Storage

The OPPO A93 has a RAM of 8GB and internal storage of 128 GB. Personally, I think this is a great deal. No matter how much you store on your phone, it will definitely take a while before you fill up 128GB. Even when you do, there is an option to install an external memory card to store your data.

Phone Experience

I found the phone to be quite user-friendly. It’s easy to follow through even if you are not familiar with android smartphones. The phone allows you to change themes to suit your personal preference, which isn’t something that all phones have. It has the dark mode feature which is seemingly gaining popularity, and an eye comfort mode that makes the brightness more gentle on the eyes.

One of the features that I found really fascinating is the music party app which allows you to play the same song at the same time with your friends, so you can have a strong ‘speaker’ system. What more could one ask for?

When it comes to multimedia, the OPPO A93 is perfect for watching Youtube and Netflix videos. Its resolution is really good, and the size of the phone is just perfect to capture minute details in the image. So this phone can definitely double up as a platform for binge-watching your favourite shows.

The phone is light in weight, fits easily on your hands, and very classy. If you decide to give it a try, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Price

The OPPO A93 retails at 29,899 on Jumia. For the features that the phone comes with, including the camera, processor, and battery capacity, then it’s a yes for me.
