Close female friendships are built on certain principles or better known as girl codes. Gone are the days when women were labelled “their own worst enemies”. You and your clique should toast to that. However, there is still a number who aren’t up to speed with these fundamental girl codes. Here are a few girl codes to live by.

  1. Thou Shall Support A Sister

You should be your girlfriend’s number-one fan. Your friendship shouldn’t just be based on going out and having fun. If they have a startup, support their business. Use your chamas to market their products and spread the word. Additionally, if you have business skills, help them out where they might be struggling. There’s enough space for everyone at the table.

  1. Thou Shall Not Slut-Shame

Women already deal with a lot of disrespect. Therefore, there’s no need to project your own insecurities on other women. On the contrary, you could learn a thing or two about confidence from them. If you feel like a friend may be getting out of control, you may stage a friendtervention. However, learn the appropriate way to do so. Rather than telling her to stop sleeping around, ask her if she’s being safe like the supportive sister you are.

  1. Thou Shall Be Nice To Every Girl

As girls, we relate to the struggle that comes with being a girl. From menstruation to body issues, these are all things girls go through. Therefore, we have much more in common than any other gender. That should make us more united. Can you imagine what the world would be like if all women got along with each other?

  1. Thou Shall Take Bomb Pictures Of A Friend

By now, you should know your angles and your friend’s angles. Make an ordinary day look Instagram worthy and most of all, gas her up. The more you boost her confidence, the better the picture. You can also help out a friend who’s slacking on her Instagram game. Not only will she appreciate the good photos but also this is a bonding experience for most girls. A squad that slays together, stays together.

  1. Thou Shall Stay Away From A Friend’s Ex

This is the mother of all girl codes. Exes should remain a closed chapter in your books as well, regardless of any friendship that may have formed between the two of you. More importantly, ex-boyfriends are off-limits to get into a relationship with. It’s during a breakup that your loyalty as a friend is put to the test.

  1. Thou Shall Check Her Bestie’s Outfit

Let’s face it – not all our friends have a great fashion sense. This should be from head to toe. Make sure your friend walks out of the house looking like she came from a photoshoot. However, if she’s not feeling the glam life, maintain the friend’s personal style.

  1. Thou Shall Be A Go-Getter

There’s no excuse to not chase your dreams anymore. You have the feminine power to change the world, and so do it. Women are becoming leaders and good ones, for that matter. Therefore, there are more role models and people to learn from. Explore your potential and never give up. Failure is part of the journey.
