Valentines is an age-old tradition that dates back to the third century. The interpretation has been altered through the course of time, and while the origin of Valentine’s Day isn’t exactly known, we make the most of it. Valentines is a time for loved ones to be together and celebrate their love. It is a time to reflect on the journey of love, how far you have come, and to plan out the future. There are a lot of ways to spend Valentine’s with your loved one, in this article, I’ll shed focus on a few romantic comedies to wind down the evening. For single ladies, here are a few ways to be happily single on Valentine’s Day.

  1. Home Again

Reese Witherspoon is a great actress who has created a niche around rom-coms for nearly two decades. In Home Again she plays Alice Kinney, the daughter of a prominent movie producer who passed on a few years ago. Alice is in her early forties, recently divorced and has two daughters. She relocated from New York to Los Angeles with her two daughters, in a bid to start a new life for herself. While In LA, she lives with her mom, and one night as Alice is out with her friends, she meets a trio of aspiring filmmakers in their late twenties. As events cascade, the trio ends up living with Alice in her mother’s guest house. Each of the three has an influence on Alice’s life, spreading from romance, business, and inspiration.

This lovely romantic comedy will give you a few laughs, make you fall in love with the characters, and inspire you to scale new heights.

  1. Everybody Loves Somebody

This is a beautiful movie about a successful woman whose profession is in gynaecology and obstetrics. Unofficially, she uses her time to advice and counsel couples on the road to happiness. The irony, however, is she is yet to experience that happiness herself. When she travels to Mexico to be with her family, she hires one of her colleagues to pose as her boyfriend. Fate, has different plans for her, as her ex-shows up at her home in Mexico to try and win her back. The movie is full of comical rib-cracking moments, and sober moments that will lead you to deeper reflection.

  1. The Big Sick

Kumail Nanjiani is a comedy mastermind, in this movie, he joins writer Emily V. Gordon to make a hit rom-com based on their love story. Kumail is a Chicago based stand-up comedian who is struggling to get his big break. His jokes are based on his life, and his parents always trying to get him to settle down through an arranged marriage. One day as he is performing, he gets heckled by a woman in the audience. He looks for the woman (Emily) after his performance, and as one thing leads to the next, they have a one night stand.

The one night stand morphs into a relationship, but Kumail has commitment issues knowing his family would never approve of the relationship. Emily breaks up with him but falls sick a few weeks later. When Kumail learns of this, he rushes to see her and informs her parents. Her condition worsens while Kumail and her parents can’t agree on what to do about her debilitating health condition.

This beautiful movie is about love, trust, breaking cultural practices and beliefs.

  1. The incredible Jessica James

Jessica James is an absurd, smart and independent young lady who hasn’t had the best of luck with men. Her friends set her up with a blind date (Boone) who thought they have a rocky start, they eventually hit things off. Through the course of the movie, they both discover they have not fully moved on past their previous relationships, and make an effort to quit stalking their exes and to focus on each other. Jessica later finds Boone in a compromising position with his ex-wife and decides to end things. She is caught between the feelings she has for her ex, Boone and all the emotion in between.

This movie is about trust, moving on, and let go of the past.

I am a hopeless romantic and these are some of the movies I intend to watch on Valentine’s Day. The movies are timeless and you can watch them with your loved ones at any time.
