Subscription video on demand service Netflix is set to premiere a TV series called Sense8 which was partly shot in Kenya. The series was created and co-directed by The Matrix trilogy creators Andy and Lana Wachowski. The first 12 episodes of Sense8 were shot in 9 cities including Nairobi, Chicago, San Francisco, London, Berlin, Seoul, Reykjavik (Iceland), Mexico City and Mumbai.
Sense8 will premiere on June 5th on Netflix and all episodes will be available on that day. The series is about a group of people around the world who are suddenly linked mentally. They are hunted by people who see them as a threat and they must find a way to survive.
The scenes in Nairobi were shot last September with 8 Kenyan actors, and over 700 extras. The areas where the series was shot include the Globe Roundabout, KICC rooftop, Machakos Country Bus station, The Railways warehouse, Kibera and California estate.
The Kenyan actors in the series include Biko Nyongesa, Paul Ogola, Lwanda Jawar and Chichi Seii. The Kenyan matatu driver in Nairobi is played by a non Kenyan but Aml Ameen (Capheus) below looks like he is up to the task. Let’s wait and see.
