digital migration 3

The second phase of the digital migration is coming up. It will be on the 2nd of February 2015 and will cover Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kakamega, Kisii, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyahururu (Nyadundo), Machakos, Narok and Loldiani (Rongai).

To migrate you can purchase a ‘Free To Air’ Set Top Box which has a one time fee and for which you will not pay monthly subscription fees. Or you can take the pay TV option which has an initial fee and which has monthly subscriptions. Ask your vendor to give you the details of whether it is a free to air set top box or a pay tv set top box before purchasing it. You can also buy a digital tv.

The only Digital Set Top Boxes approved for transmission in Kenya have the DVB-T2 – MPEG4 mark. This is what has been approved for this region to meet the demands of the future of digital broadcasting. Before making a purchase ask your vendor to confirm that the set top box is the DVB-T2 – MPEG4 and check if it has the sign.
