Are you ready to go digital?

Kenya is switching from using analogue TV signals to using ditigal TV signals. This will enable Kenyans to be able to get a wider range of choice of programs, allow more free to air tv stations because of better utilization of frequencies. Here are some of the benefits:

• Better picture quality,
• more choice in channels
• more access and interface with to interface with devices such as a cell phone, memory card or internet modem,
• you will be able to get High Defination Television which has great picture and sound quality, An Electronic Program Guide (EPGs) can be used by viewers to navigate between channels, identify the currently screening program and the next program (‘now and next’) on each channel.
• Better utilization of frequencies

The Digital Kenya Secretariat under CCK has kick-started the Digital TV Migration campaign. Nairobi and its environs will pioneer this project, with Nairobi switching from analogue to digital TV by December 2013. The rest of the country will be switched off in phases with Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kisii, Nakuru and Eldoret moving to digital by March 30 next year. All the other areas across the country will be switched off on 30th June 2014.

There is a global deadline to move to digital TV broadcasting by June 17, 2015. This means that Kenya will be compliant almost one year in advance. Since the launch of the digital migration by former President Mwai Kibaki in December 2009, the country has taken a number of steps to ensure that Kenyans migrate with minimal challenges including the Government waiver of import duty on set top boxes in the 2012/2013 Financial year.
