black beautiful hair

It’s said that a lady’s hair is her crown. Though this can sound slightly theatrical, I found that this notion is true especially for women as the hair in their head plays a big part in contributing to the first impression that people make of you. For this reason, hair should receive as much care and love as any other part of your body.

Taking care of your hair doesn’t have to be an expensive venture – some of these recommended natural products can be in your own back yard or even in your local super market. As we recently celebrated International Women’s day here are some few pointers on food that they ladies can use to treat their hair so that they always maintain their ‘crowning glory’.

Rosemary

This herb has a very strong scent that cannot go unnoticed when it’s part of your meal. But did you know that Rosemary is known to stimulate hair growth? Yes it does. It also gives hair that glossy and silky texture too! Aside from this, it is said that the leaves of Rosemary can retain hair colour as well, so for those of you who have those nasty greys starting to creep up, here’s a something to try out for yourself.

What else can Rosemary do? Well, if you also have a dry scalp, regular massaging of rosemary on the scalp helps to eradicate dandruff. All you need to do is crush the Rosemary with 300mls of water then massage the mixture into your hair. It is recommended that you use this treatment after you’ve shampooed and you can use it as regularly as you wish, depending on the state of your hair.

The sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are delicious! But who would have thought that this great starch vegetable can also be used to improve hair growth? I’m not kidding. It already has a gazillion nutritional benefits that help maintain a slim waistline because of its low calorie count and now you have another reason to use it because as it turns out, it’s also an amazing ingredient to include in your hair treatment!

If you have notoriously dry hair, more so during this hot weather we’re experiencing then why not try making a sweet potato paste? The Vitamin A seals your scalps natural oils so it contains the moisture while the Omega 3 fatty acids nourish the hair follicles. The recipe is simple; all you need is half a plain large sweet potato cooked and mashed, three table spoons of honey and a quarter cup of plain yogurt. Mix all three ingredients into a paste and apply it on your damp hair. Cover up with a plastic shower cap and let it sit for about 20 minutes then rinse it off.
