I Didn’t Find Out Until It Was Too Late That Prince Charming Was A “Homeless Hottie”

I started getting suspicious when he spent a whole week at my place without going anywhere.

There’s an alarming trend going on in Nairobi where young men are targeting pretty women in their late 20s and early 30s. They seduce them then move into their homes and refuse to leave. My friend and I call them “the homeless hotties” because they’re really attractive. We’ve all had several encounters with them but I’m the only one who fell for the trap since the guy didn’t appear younger than me. On the contrary, he looked older.

It’s easy to spot these guys because they dress really well which makes them stand out. However, the guy who approached me was dressed regularly. He looked like any other working-class guy.

I was in a matatu which was fairly empty then shortly after, a guy came in and sat next to me. I didn’t pay much attention to him but I was a bit irritated since I wanted to enjoy some comfort and he had interrupted my plans. Nonetheless, I tried not to let it get to me and kept an open mind.

“Hi, can you open the window?” he asked.

More disturbance, I thought. I wanted to refuse but there was something about him that made me nicer. He had a friendly demeanour so I knew I would feel guilty for being mean.

“Sure.” I said then opened it slightly.

“Thanks. I’m Jay.” he said.

“Okay.”

“Whats your name?”

“Anne.”

“Pretty name. Girls called Anne are usually pretty.” he said.

I smiled at the compliment but didn’t say anything. Jay kept looking at me as if he wanted to say something but I ignored him so he didn’t talk to me the whole time.

When we were about to reach our destination, he started talking to me again.

“Have you come from work?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“What did you do?”

“I have a business.”

“Nice. Which one?”

“I sell beauty products.”

“That suits you. You’re so beautiful.”

“Thanks.”

“You’re exactly my type. I like light-skinned girls with big breasts.”

The comment caught me off guard and I didn’t know whether to laugh or be offended.

“I’m about to go,” I said as I motioned for me to let me pass.

“Okay. Can I have your number?”

I didn’t have time to give him my number since I was already at my destination. So, he followed me off the bus and we walked towards my place.

For whatever reason, I didn’t think it was strange that he was following me. It was probably because he was dressed like someone who had his own money and not someone who was younger than me. I actually enjoyed his company.

We got in the supermarket since I needed a few things which he paid for and we continued with our walk. Once we got to my place, he offered to make me dinner.

“I’m actually a good cook,” he said.

“Okay. Let’s go in and cook.”

Things happened so fast that when I look back, I wonder whether he had used some kind of drug to confuse me. It was so unlike me to let someone I had just met in to my home. However, Jay just brightened my mood and I wanted to be around him.

After dinner, we ended up spending the night together but he woke up early to go to his place and freshen up for work.

“Will you come tonight?” I asked, still half-asleep.

“Okay.”

As planned, he came to my place that evening and we spent the night together. However, he didn’t wake up to go to work in the morning as he had the previous day. Instead, he offered to clean the house while I was gone. Since I had a lot of chores, I accepted the offer.

Sure enough, I came home to a sparkling clean house and dinner. I still didn’t question how a guy who was older than me was that generous. Normally, it’s the younger guys who treat women like queens since they have nothing else to do.

After staying at my place for almost a week, I started to get suspicious.

“Aren’t you going to work?” I asked.

“Work has been slow. I’m thinking of quitting and looking for another one.”

“Oh, okay.”

Do you know anyone who is hiring?”

“What kind of work do you want?”

“Any, but I mostly want online.”

“I don’t know any online jobs.”

Despite saying that he was looking for a job, I never saw him applying for any or going outside to look for one. He spent the whole day at my place doing nothing except cooking and eating.

My neighbours started telling me that he was bringing people into my home. My suspicions about him grew but I had no way of proving anything.

I knew I had to end things with him but it was difficult since Jay was a good guy and I had started having feelings for him.

“I think you should go back to your place. You’ve stayed here for so long.” I said bluntly.

“Okay.” he agreed.

He went for a few days but I missed him so I asked him to come back. However, I gave him a condition.

“I feel like you’re lying to me and I hate liars. I need the whole truth of you want to stay here.”

“Sure. I’ll tell you everything.”

I wasn’t ready for what Jay told me that evening.

As soon as I got home, I messaged him letting him know that I was around and he arrived shortly after. We had dinner and then went to the bedroom to talk.

“What’s going on?”

“Well, you’re right. I have lied about some things,” he said.

“Like what?”

He hesitated then said, “I’m not 28 years old. I’m younger than you.

“What? How much younger?”

“I’m actually 20.”

“Wow, I can’t believe it. What else have you lied to me about?”

“I don’t have my own place. I live with my cousin.”

There was a long silence as I tried to understand how I had been duped so much. I couldn’t even look at Jay because of how disgusted I felt.

“I want you to leave and never come back. Don’t even call or text me.” I said angrily.

“Please, babe. I love you.”

“Get out!!” I shouted.

He left and I never heard from him again. I told my friends that the Prince Charming I couldn’t stop talking about was actually one of the homeless hotties and they just laughed at me.
