There are so many channels on YouTube since it’s easy and free to upload on the platform. On average, there are about 114 million active YouTube channels and an average of 150,000 videos are uploaded on YouTube every hour. In a day, there are about 3 million videos uploaded on the platform.

However, to ensure that the content on the platform is original, entertaining and safe for consumption, YouTube has strict community guidelines and a team of moderators who comb through these channels to check for any discrepancies. If a channel is in violation of its guidelines, there are several actions that YouTube can take including terminating the channel.

Channel termination is one of the harshest punishments since, according to YouTube Support, the user will not only lose the channel but also will not be able to create any other YouTube channels, or use someone else’s channel to upload videos or comment on other videos. When your YouTube channel gets terminated, you will receive an email explaining the reason for the termination. Here are some common things that could get your YouTube channel terminated.

  1. Misleading Information

Many people go on YouTube to look for information. Whether they want to learn new skills or catch up on current events, there’s endless information on the platform. It’s up to YouTube to ensure that the information is accurate. Hence, it has systems in place help to identify harmful misinformation and remove it from the platform. Channels that contain misinformation are also terminated.

  1. Hate Speech

YouTube is one of the most popular platforms for creators to showcase their talent. However, it also attracts people with hidden agendas. Some people use the platform to spread hate speech which is strictly prohibited on YouTube. Any content or comment that spreads hate towards any group or individual warrants an automatic channel termination.

  1. Impersonation

YouTube prides itself on protecting the intellectual property of its creators. Therefore, content intended to impersonate a person or channel is not allowed. The channel does not have to be 100% identical. If it copies another channel’s name, overall look or feel, then it’s in violation of this policy and will be terminated.

  1. Copyright Infringement

Speaking of intellectual property protection, YouTube takes copyright infringement seriously. Creators can make a copyright claim on copyright-protected content that has been used without their authorization. The channel with the unauthorized content gets a strike. If they get three strikes, their channel will be terminated. Copyright And Social Media For Business: Avoiding Copyright Infringement Claims

  1. Breach Of The Terms Of Service

Most of us couldn’t be bothered to read the terms of service since they’re usually repetitive and complicated. However, YouTube’s terms of service are straightforward and easy to understand. Some of the terms of service include using information that may identify a person without their permission, misusing any reporting or flagging, and creating fake engagement. It’s necessary to familiarize yourself with these terms since a violation could lead to your channel being terminated. When you repeatedly violate any of YouTube’s community guidelines, you will be kicked off the platform.

  1. Harassment And Bullying

Bullying and harassment are still some of the biggest issues on social media platforms. Therefore, platforms like YouTube are constantly updating their regulations to protect their users from online bullies. YouTube has strict anti-bullying and harassment policies including insults based on race, gender or sexual orientation. Users have the ability to report any form of harassment and accounts that are guilty of such conduct will be terminated. How To Handle Cyber Bullying

  1. Sexual Content

To ensure that its platform is safe for everyone to use, YouTube restricts explicit sexual content. While it allows some forms of artistic and educational nudity, you can’t upload sexually explicit content such as fetishes or pornography. Violation of this policy will lead to termination of the account depending on the severity. In some cases, the video will simply be removed or age-restricted.

  1. Child Abuse

With the rise of family channels, it’s more important than ever to have strict policies that protect children on YouTube. YouTube has a number of policies that ensure children are not abused on the platform. For instance, any sexually explicit content involving minors even with comedic intent is prohibited. Additionally, putting minors in harmful situations or inflicting physical harm on a minor isn’t tolerated on the platform and leads to the channel being terminated.
