Running is like marmite. Some people love it. Some people hate it.

If you’re the latter, you might be guilty of forcing yourself to run despite hating every second of it. But running isn’t the only way to stay fit.

There are so many different forms of exercise, and many of them don’t involve running or sprinting. If you hate running, it’s likely that you’d enjoy one of these other forms of exercise much more.

So, what are the alternative ways to get fit and stay fit if you despise running? Here are some great forms of exercise to try out. You never know, you might find a new favorite!

Elliptical Machine

You’ve probably seen a row of elliptical machines in your local gym. But if you’ve never tried using one, you’re missing out!

Elliptical machines, sometimes known as cross-trainers or steppers, are a great alternative to the treadmill. They work your upper and lower body at the same time, and can help you to build muscle strength and endurance.

You can buy elliptical machines for your home too, so if you don’t have a gym membership, you can still enjoy the many benefits of using the cross-trainer.

There are certain features you should consider when buying an elliptical. Make sure that it is the right size for your home and check that the company has great testimonials. You want to know that you’re getting a high-quality machine if you’re spending hundreds of dollars on it!

Swimming

If you hate running but enjoy being in the pool, you can swap your running routine for a swimming routine.

Swimming is one of the best forms of cardiovascular exercise that does not place excess stress through your joints. It can significantly improve your coordination and flexibility.

As well as the physical benefits of swimming, it also boosts your mood by causing the release of endorphins, such as serotonin and dopamine, in your brain.

You can either swim laps by yourself or take a friend along with you. There are also swimming clubs and water aerobics classes that are perfect to get your whole body moving in a fun and sociable way.

Dancing

When you’re looking for a form of exercise that requires no running at all, dancing may just be the perfect option for you.

Dancing is a fun and varied way to get your heart pumping and your muscles working. You can join a local dance club to take part in group classes along with your friends or you can even follow along to a video tutorial online.

There are so many different types of dancing, from salsa and tango to street and break dancing to ballet and tap. You are bound to find one or two styles that you love.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not the best dancer. You can still have lots of dancing and try out new moves. You’ll be having so much fun that you’ll completely forget that you’re even exercising.
