Brian landed in the country on a rainy Friday afternoon. He had been out on a six-week assignment, and now he was finally back home. It was a refreshing feeling. Although he was tired, he had longed for familiarity. He longed to get back to his home and sleep in his bed for the first time in weeks. He longed for some local food, and he had promised himself that it would be the first thing he would do once he landed. That was a sure way of comforting him and making him settle back in the country.

His friend Martin picked him up from the airport and their first stop was the club. It was barely 3 pm and customers had already started to trickle in ready to enjoy the weekend ahead of them. The playlist was RnB, which took him way back to university, where he had lived his life to the fullest. Just thinking about this was rejuvenating and soon he wasn’t so tired anymore. They ordered bottle after bottle and at around 6 am, just as the sun was rising, they decided to head home.

Brian woke up to an excruciatingly painful headache. He knew instantly that he had overdone it, but then again it had been long since he had that much fun. Even with the headache and nausea, he didn’t regret any of it. In fact, he had met a girl, and he thought that his dry spell would soon be over. He had tried to invite her to his house, but she turned him down, claiming that she was not a chips funga.

Brian wondered if it was too early to call her, but then again he was never a believer in delayed gratification. He couldn’t live knowing that there was a beautiful girl out there who he might have a future with. He quickly started to look for his phone, but he couldn’t find it. After checking his pockets and around his house he realised that the so-called “beautiful girl” had actually robbed him. He remembered how she insisted on writing her phone number on a piece of paper and putting it in his pocket. She had managed to take his phone and his wallet.

Brian was extremely frustrated. He couldn’t communicate with his friends or even notify his family abroad that he had landed safely in the country. He turned his laptop on and locked the iPhone such that the lady wouldn’t be able to use it. That was done, and it made him feel slightly better. He then went on Facebook to text his parents explaining to them what had happened. He wondered how long it would take for them to actually see that text.

Brian turned the T.V on to find a breaking news headline. The country had resorted to a lockdown, having increased numerous cases of Coronavirus. Brian was disoriented because he was supposed to travel in the next two weeks on another assignment. Such assignments came with bonuses, and Brian had already planned how he would use that money. Now, all those plans had gone down the drain. Given that he had only a day to shop for the house, he left instantly to go to a nearby mall. With no alternative, he also decided that he would buy another phone. Now that he would be indoors most of the time it was important to him that he remains in touch with his loved ones.

He got back home at around 8 pm, with a huge load of shopping. His house had been empty in terms of food seeing as he wasn’t around. He fixed his sim card into the new phone and messaged his friend on Instagram explaining to him how he had been robbed. He sent him his number and got a call almost immediately.

“Hey, bro!” He said in his deep masculine voice.

“Hey, how are you? I can’t believe you forgot that your phone was stolen by that girl. We discussed it. I guess you were too drunk. But after it was stolen, you insisted that we go and drink some more to ‘wash away the bad memories.’ How don’t you remember?”

They laughed it off.

Brian started to download the apps that he thought he needed. First things first, he downloaded Tinder. You see, Brian had been talking to this girl on the app for the last month. Her name was Becky. She had messaged him first, and that was a complete turn-on for him. A girl who shoots her shot. However, a few weeks down the line, he realised she was extremely clingy. Although they had never met in person, she wanted to know where he was all the time and who he was with. Eventually Brian ghosted her. Now, left with no other option, he decided to see if she was still interested, and to his surprise, she was.

It had now been a month since the lockdown. In this country, they were only allowed to leave the house to go and buy groceries, and even that was controlled. Brian was sick of staying home all the time, and he craved sex now more than ever before. He had played all the video games he could, done all his official work, and ticked off all the chores on his to-do list. Every night he would speak to Brenda for hours telling her all the things he would do to her once they met.

One evening they devised a plan to get her to go and visit him. You see, the regulation here was that only one person could be in a car, and only when they were going to buy food. Brenda lived with a roommate who religiously followed all the rules, and she knew that there was no chance she would let Brian into their house even for a minute. This left them with only one option: That Brenda goes to visit Brian.

“So, how will we do this?” she asked.

“Don’t worry, I have a plan.”

“I don’t want to enter public transport. I know there’s a regulation on the number of people, but how can I be sure that the few people in those buses are all free from Coronavirus?”

“Babe, relax. I won’t let you risk your life. I’ll come for you. You can hide in the boot of my car. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of space…”

“How can I…that’s ridiculous!”

“It is, but I promise once we get to my place you won’t regret it. It’ll be worth it.”

Shocking as it sounds, he actually managed to convince her to do it. He drove to her house on a Sunday morning. When he got to the gate the watchmen started probing him about where he was headed. They had orders not to allow anyone into the compound. Luckily, Brenda walked out of her house right on time to plead with them to let him in. They drove to the basement of the compound which was pretty deserted, and she got into the boot. It was a funny scene. He closed the boot and got back into the car then drove out.

Brian was driving on the highway, ten minutes away from his apartment, when he noticed that there was a roadblock. The policemen summoned him to stop the car.

“Good morning sir,” he said.

“Good morning. Where are you headed this early in the morning?” The policeman asked.

“I’m from the mall. I was going to buy some stuff. I decided to go this early assuming there would be fewer people.”

“Driving license please?” He asked. Brian’s heart rate increased as he handed over the license.

“Kindly step out of the car. We’re doing random checks.” The policeman said. He had a stern face.

Lady Luck was clearly not on Brian’s side, because the policeman asked to check the boot, and as if on instinct, Brenda voluntarily came out and started to apologise.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. We shouldn’t have done this. We’re on the wrong. I’m sorry. Please forgive us,” Brenda said, her voice now sounding raspy. She had started to cry and was trembling out of fear.

“I’m sorry, but the rules can’t be broken. Everyone found violating the rules is going to mandatory quarantine.” The policeman said.

He took out his phone and made a call, and a few minutes later a car arrived.

“Brenda, that’s for you. You will be taken home to get the essentials, and then directed to a quarantine facility where you will remain for two weeks.”

“What about me?” Brian asked.

“Your car is on its way.”

“Why do you have to separate us? I thought we could at least be taken to the same place, then maybe we could…” He said.

“I can’t believe you’re still thinking about that, you pervert!” Brenda said furiously as she was led away.

A few minutes later Brian’s car arrived. He unwillingly got in. Deep down, he wasn’t really worried about going to quarantine. The only thing on his mind was how he would have to wait another fourteen days to break his dry spell, and even that wasn’t guaranteed because he now had to find someone new on Tinder, someone willing to risk it all for a night of pleasure.
