Watermelon is one of the most underrated fruits. Yet, it is one of the most nutritious fruits, especially for pregnant women. Apart from being super delicious contains a variety of vitamins and minerals including Vitamins c and E that boosts immunity. For pregnant women, watermelon is a dietary necessity for many more reasons.

  1. Alleviates Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is very common during pregnancy which can be irritating and start your day off on the wrong foot.it is, therefore, a good idea for pregnant women to start the day off with a watermelon. Its nutritional properties soothe away any nauseous feeling and keep you energized throughout the day. You can eat it as a fruit or make it into a juice.

  1. Prevents Pigmentation

Many pregnant women complain of their skin changing colour which may give them body issues. This is caused by hormonal imbalance and the retention of toxins in the blood. Since watermelons contain lots of water and roughage, it promotes easy digestion. In turn, your skin retains its natural, beautiful pregnancy glow.

Watermelon contains nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6 potassium and magnesium which are very important for the baby. The vitamins help develop eyesight, brain, nervous and skeleton system while the mineral develops bone structure. Hence, eating watermelons ensures that the baby develops properly.

Swelling, in pregnant women, may be caused by a variety of reasons including blood pressure, excess fluid and stress. Watermelon helps in the removal of excess fluids from the body. Additionally, it helps in regulating blood pressure sing it contains natural sugars and water.

When you’re carrying extra weight and good through a wave of hormones, its normal to feel tired and sore. Watermelon keeps your body hydrated which eases muscle cramps. However, if you’re experiencing excessive pain, you should consult your doctor.

Watermelon contains lycopene, which reduces the risk of pre-eclampsia by about 50 per cent. Pre-eclampsia is a common condition women develop during pregnancy which increases their blood pressure.

Another common health problem for pregnant women is developing UTI. This can be irritation and sometimes, embarrassing. Watermelon contains anti-bacterial properties that prevent infections in the body. Additionally, its rich water content will flush out bacteria from the urinary tract.

It’s evident that watermelon is a necessary part of your diet, pregnant or not. However, just like any other food, too much consumption may have a negative effect on your body and put your unborn baby in danger. Its high sugar content may trigger diabetes. Furthermore, its high water content may flush out essential nutrients. Enjoy your fruits in moderation and remember to include other important foods in your diet.
