International Women’s Day is just around the corner and this year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge. For many women, both in the present and the past, this has been the story of their lives. They’ve had to put up a fight to earn their place in society. Needless to say, it’s never been easy being a woman which is why it’s important to appreciate the women in your lives. Whether it’s your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, colleague, or boss, they deserve to feel extra special especially on International Women’s Day. Here are some ways you can celebrate the women in your life on that day.

  1. Donate To Women’s Organizations That Directly Take Care Of Battered And Abused Women

There are many non-profit organizations that offer refuge or help to battered, abused, and marginalized women in the community. You can do your part by supporting their cause and spreading love to the brave women and girls who’ve escaped their abusive situations. Whether you donate clothes that you no longer use, toiletries, or money, your contribution can go a long way in keeping the organizations running and therefore, ensuring that such women are in a safe environment.

  1. Send A Nice Message To Your Female Colleagues

You may not have the means to treat your female co-workers to lunch or buy them a gift. However, something as simple as writing a nice message can be just as thoughtful. It’s even better when it comes from their work colleague since this is one area women are underappreciated. Let them know why you think they’re incredible and be their cheerleader.

Here is the Importance Of Including Women In The Workplace

  1. Spend Time With Your Mum

Mothers are the most important women in anyone’s life. They dedicate their lives to their children and this is a great opportunity to return the love. You can visit them at home, take them out for lunch, a nice, relaxing spa date, or however you bond with her. Either way, she’ll appreciate spending time with you and you’ll definitely make her Women’s Day memorable. However, if you can’t be physically present, call her and talk to her on the phone.

  1. Acknowledge The Women In Your Life

Can you imagine what life would be like without the women you know? Women play a big part in making life a little bit more colourful and exciting. Be it our sisters, best friends, girlfriends, or wives, they deserve to know just how much you appreciate them. Therefore, you can write a lengthy post on social media talking about how awesome they each are or you can tell them in person. Don’t forget to use the #ChooseToChallenge hashtag in your social media posts.

Women Let Us Champion Each Other And Break The Glass Ceilings Together

  1. Teach Your Children About Impactful Women

You can teach your children about women who made a difference in society by choosing to challenge. This includes the likes of Wangari Maathai and Njoki Ndung’u who fought for environmental conservation and women’s rights respectively. Learning about such women could change their outlook on what they can and can’t do. They can also find inspiration to do more good and stand up for what they believe in.

Why We Celebrate International Women’s Day

  1. Grow Your Inner Circle

We tend to hang out with people similar to us which can create an imbalance in our social circles. Both men and women could benefit from inclusion since you get different perspectives. Additionally, it’s only through inclusivity that you can truly learn about what women go through. Therefore, this Women’s Day, you can commit to expanding your inner circle to include them as well.
