We give a lot of attention to our teeth while forgetting one of the most important parts of our mouth – gums. Gums play an important role in our general oral health. Essentially, they keep your teeth in line and act as a shock absorber. The gums happen to be one of the most sensitive parts of the mouth and can easily get an infection if you don’t take care of it. You can tell whether your gums are healthy or not by checking if they bleed when you brush or if they look loose or low on your teeth. If you notice any of these signs, you should consult a dentist depending on the severity.  Another way to support gum health is to have a diet of healthy foods that provide the necessary nutrients. Here are some foods you should eat.

  1. Nuts

Nuts are healthier snack options compared to other snacks that contain sugar. They’re also packed with nutrients that help promote and support healthy gums.  For instance, almonds are a good source of calcium while peanuts contain a good amount of Vitamin D and calcium. Additionally, the crunchiness produces lots of saliva in the mouth which neutralizes infection-causing bacteria and restores the microbiome in the mouth. The Benefits Of Nuts And The Most Nutritious Ones To Eat

  1. Tea

Most of us drink tea every day without realizing how beneficial it is to our bodies. Studies have found that tea, especially green tea, contains numerous nutrients such as manganese, potassium and fluorine that are needed to promote gum health. Fluorine, in particular, is necessary for our teeth and gums as it forms a stronger barrier against acids produced by caries-forming bacteria. Tea also contains flavonoids and tannins that have some kind of antiseptic effect.  It’s recommended to take three cups of tea daily to enjoy its benefits. 11 Benefits Of Green Tea

  1. Dairy

Dairy is well known to build strong bones and promote oral health thanks to its rich calcium content. People who consume dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt have a lower chance of getting gum diseases as opposed to those who don’t. It’s recommended to take at least 55 grams of dairy each day to keep gum diseases away which can cause tooth loss and other health complications such as heart diseases and respiratory diseases if not treated. Benefits of going the milky way

  1. Omega-3 Rich Foods

The omega-3 fatty acid is a powerful anti-inflammatory nutrient that promotes the normal functioning of the body and strengthens immunity. This is especially important for gum health since it fights common gum diseases like periodontitis which causes the gums to recede leading to tooth loss. It’s necessary to eat enough foods that have omega-3 such as fatty fish to meet the daily dietary requirement. However, research shows that even consuming a small amount of omega-3 can protect your gums. 6 Health Benefits Of Eating Foods Rich In Omega 3 Fatty Acids And Their Sources

  1. Sugar-Free Foods

Sugary foods are the greatest enemy of even the most pristine teeth. Bad bacteria in your mouth feed on sugary substances. Therefore, each time you eat sugary or starchy foods, the bacteria in plaque get another chance to form decay-causing acid and destroy your pearly whites. The plaque and bacteria buildup can also lead to gum diseases over time. Try to avoid sugary foods and if you eat something sugary, make sure that you brush your teeth immediately. 1. Chicken

Chicken provides our gums with numerous benefits thanks to its collagen and CoQ10 content. Collagen is mostly associated with stronger hair and smoother skin. However, it’s also beneficial for our teeth and gums. Our gums are made up of connective tissues that contain collagen. Therefore, eating foods that contain collagen can result in thicker, healthier gums. CoQ10 is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that can help prevent and fight gum diseases. Lifestyle: 5 Chicken Recipes That You Need To Try Out
