OPPO Mobile just recently launched the OPPO F7 in Kenya. The F7 is the latest in the OPPO selfie expert F Series which was first launched in 2016. The F series has become widely known for its selfie prowess with all phones’ front camera’s being supported by Artificial Intelligence. The new F7 is no exception. During the launch, OPPO also announced their plans to enter European markets later this year as part of its global strategic plan.
Design
The OPPO F7 has a sleek design with 7.8mm thickness. This slim design has been a customer favourite even with their previous phones since most people prefer slimmer phones. The phone weighs 158g and is offers dual sim services allowing for nano sim cards.
The design comes with full HD plus 6.23 Inch, Super Screen design, which is one of the largest mobile manufactured screens in the market. The screen has 2280 x 1080 resolution with 19:9 aspect ratio. It has 88% screen to body ratio with only a thin silver of non-screen space left on the sides. This is meant to give customers a great colourful and vivid experience. Looking at the screen, all photos seem lifelike. It also has an LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours boasting of Cornilla glass 5 protection.
Camera
This is where the phone excels best. It has a primary camera of 16 MP f/1.8 aperture which is paired with a new camera algorithm that can recognize different scenes and change settings accordingly. But that is not even what makes the phone such a hit. The OPPO F7 has a 25MP front camera complete with improved Artificial Intelligence beauty 2.0 or what we call the second iteration technology. This AI technology can precisely recognize and beautify each facial feature separately. It also blurs the background creating a bokeh effect which one can adjust even after taking the picture.
Apart from all that, the device becomes the first of OPPO phones first to infuse the Sony 576 Sensor with a High Dynamic Range (HDR) function in hardware (Sensor HDR).The Dynamic Range technology gives selfies a wider range of luminance levels. This works even in extreme light conditions like a dark corner or bright sunlight. This allows more details to be captured to reveal a brighter, more vibrant and clearer selfie!
The device also has three main upgrades:
- Smarter AI recognition determining 296 facial positioning spots. It then matches it against a global database and then adds natural-looking enhancements to your selfie
- Smarter A.I. beautification touches for male and females in the same group selfie. Over time, the AI learns your personal preferences based on your previous edits and automatically makes the same adjustments on subsequent photos on your phone.
- A.I. leaning with some new features including Vivid Mode and Augmented Reality Stickers similar to Snapchat. You can turn yourself into a rock star or even an animal. The phone comes with a bunch of avatars and you can which allows you to have fun with whichever you like.
The front camera also has a cover shot feature. This is a feature used to edit the pictures of models on magazine covers. It allows you to play around with the colour saturation of your selfie. You can enhance the colour of your clothes or even touch up the background. You can easily become your own beauty artist using this feature.
The OPPO F7 has an AI album that helps you find your photos easily. Instead of endlessly scrolling through your gallery for old pictures, the AI image recognition automatically groups photos by faces, places and scenes. So all the pictures that have something in common can be found in one place. Video recording is possible at 1080p@30fps with both the front and back cameras. You can use the entire screen as a viewfinder by changing image ratio but this sacrifices the resolution of the picture.
Performance
One great thing about this phone is that it has not sacrificed one aspect for the other. Even with such amazing specifications for the camera and design, the RAM and ROM of the phone is still pretty much top notch.
The phone packs 4GM RAM allowing you to easily multitask without worrying about slowing down some processes. This comes packed with an octa-core processor running at 2GHz processing speeds. As is common with many of OPPO’s high-end phones, it is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset.
The internal memory or ROM is 64GB which can be expended up to 256GB via microSD card. However, the phone will come in two variations with the other version having 6GM RAM and a warping 128 GB internal storage. Think of the things you can save on that phone.
Battery
The OPPO F7 comes with a 3400 mAh battery. That should be enough to get you through a whole day without recharging. The charging and data transfers use a micro-USB Type C port. Unfortunately, the phone does not support fast charging so you may need to give it a while for it to fully charge.
Fingerprint sensor
The performance of the phone extends even to its security. It has a fingerprint sensor that is quick and accurate. Alternatively, it has given customers the option of using face unlock which is also just as quick. It does not end there. There is also the option of life to wake gesture where the phone unlocks immediately when you pick it up and look at the camera.
Software
The phone is operating on the 8.1 Oreo android version so it can handle the heavy customization of the colour OS 5.0.
The device will be on pre-order until 6th of May where it will go officially on sale on all online including Jumia and offline stores in Solar Red, and Diamond Black.
The phone is going for KSHS 35,990.
